If Remy doesn't really want to come here (and he's made it abundantly clear that he doesn't, several times now) then it's not just as simple as bidding £7m for him. We might have a chance at getting him on loan for 6 months so he can secure a place in the French squad this summer but I seriously doubt he'd sign permanently. There would have to be a large shift in his mentality in that he was giving up on playing for a Champions League club which has always been his ambition. Frankly, he's easily good enough to play in the Champions League so I don't blame him for not being that enthusiastic about coming to Newcastle.
Loan even better. Less risk. We don't want/need him longterm, we just need someone right now to put the ball in the net. It's a perfect fit, for him and us. Shouldn't be that hard to sell to the guy.
Taking a look at the top 15 to 20 strikers rated by their personal statistics and very much depending on which outfit has put the stats together, (it cannot be an absolute science,) and there are lots of other factors to consider, such as what team the guy plays in and who his team mates are, but the names pretty much regularly include the usual suspects, ie Messi Ronaldo Robben Kane Aguero Costa Tevez, Ibrahimovic but also regularly contains the name Bas Dost. For some reason others on the forum don't seem to rate him, but he seems to feature on most lists of top strikers. Looking at the others on the various lists the only one apart from Dost that sometimes features is Charlie Austin. We have zero chance of signing any of the others, Austin may be a possibility. I know that Dost is injured and so is not an instant fix to our current goal drought, but going forwards, l for one would like to see him really considered by the Board. Injured or not l don't see him staying at Wolfsburg much longer and we may well regret not being the club that brings this striker to the PL.
Definitely not on any of the lists, nope definitely not there. I looked really hard, but no Rivierre.
Rivière is a waste of space. Why the hell we signed him is a mystery. Reeked of a panic buy back then as it does now.
£4 million is a steal. In today's prices that's not even a risk and the rewards could be massive. At least it hasn't happened in the last week of the window so (hopefully) we have time to focus our attention on a goalscorer we can get.
Austin turned us down in the summer because he wanted to stay in the south. Great signing from the Saints.
