I would keep Romeu ahead of Vic for Saturday...we know how WBA will play and Romeu moves the ball forward much quicker than Vic who wants to trap it, tap it forward, think about what to do and then pass (hopefully to a Saints player).
Also I think the partnership between Romeu and Clasie is growing well and the transition from defence to attack is far better than when Vic plays

Definitely keep Romeu for Saturday, all the right messages for everyone etc.

If VW moves on though I do think we would need to bring someone in, otherwise the squad would be a little light in a crucial position. I wouldn't be happy going into next season with just Romeu, Clasie and Reed.

Not convinced if/where VW will move though. I can't see one the elite clubs wanting him as IMO he is not good enough for that level. So I guess he will end up at Spurs ...

Did we not categorically state that we would no longer be doing business with those grotty little yobs? A stance swiftly adopted by WBA too?

Would definitely play Romeu Saturday, and keep Vic on the bench.
I think he is getting better each game he plays.
With WBA, being a Pulis team, this could be a really good test for Clasie, against more physical types of players.

Romeu played one good game, and one shaky game. Not sure why that means Wanyama should lose his starting spot.

This board is driving me crazy. A few days ago, I was pointing out that one reason Reed doesn't get to play was because Romeu hadn't really gotten a good look. Which drew arguments from people claiming Romeu was obviously crap. Now Romeu should be starting over Wanyama. Even though that means Reed, if anything, is more buried.

Romeu deserves to play the next game. Wanyama got suspended for being stupid so it is his own fault. If Romeu continues to impress then why bring back Wanyama?
You say Reed will be pushed down even further? How is that? He is and has always been behind Wanyama, Clasie and Romeu in Ron's eyes. So atm he would be behind Romeu, Clasie and Wanyama. So exactly the same.

Regarding my post I was looking it more long term.

I would keep Romeu in. I would switch back to 4 at the back though. Bit harsh on Targett though.

But are these the same people. I know there aren't hundreds on here, but contradictory viewpoints may actually be different people being consistent.

Because you would essentially be dropping Wanyama on the basis of one bad game and promoting Romeu on the basis of one good game.

Also, you would be tanking Wanyama's transfer value. If you think Romeu should be starting over Wanyama, then just sell Wanyama now.

Don't think dropping him for one game will affect his sale price. Even if it did, Koeman picks the team to win a game...the selling price of Wanyama isn't important compared to the cost of relegation (which I know isn't likely). However, it will be interesting to see what Ron does.

Well, IMO Wanyama is rested and that is important. I think either Clasie or Romeu should get a breather.

And I don't think a message needs to be sent. Wanyama already got called out publicly by Koeman and has had time to think about it. And in the meantime, Mane has already played and in my mind what he did was worse than Wanyama, who also issued a public apology.

The fact that Romeu scored in the one game and played well yesterday should already serve as a wake up call for Wanyama that his place is not guaranteed. If he's not motivated now, he never will be.

I'm fine with an open competition at that DM spot. But to me, that also means Wanyama gets a chance, albeit on a short leash. Play him, see how he does. If he's bad then Romeu gets the next game and if Romeu plays well then maybe Romeu gets the job.

Think you definitely need to factor in the opponents here. Even the biggest Wanyama fan would concede that he is not the greatest on the ball and against WBA at home we're likely to have a lot more possession. This is an opponent where Victors skills are not going to be as crucial. Especially considering we have Man Utd & Arsenal coming up.

Personally, I feel you get two benefits with keeping Romeu and having Vic on the bench Saturday. Confidence for Romeu and a message to the whole squad that no players get in the team, no matter what and secondly Big Vic should be chomping at the bit ahead of two matches where we're going to have to be at our best without the ball.

If he puts Ozil back in his pocket like he did on boxing day, then suitors are going to take notice.

Wanyama doesnt deserve to start because he hasn't played particularly well this season never mind the Norwich game. He was back to his old self against his apparent next club arsenal - surprisingly enough - but I have seen little else for him to be deserving a start of late.

And I say that as someone who has rated him highly since he joined and defended him whilst others criticised

If we are punishing players for not playing particularly well this season, we'd have to bench the entire team.

Wanyama really hasn't played that much differently than he did last season. People have just decided he's not playing well and not trying because he threw a tantrum at the start of the year. And because he's not Steven Davis.

Yeah. He did score but I thought prior to that he was not great (though also not terrible).

Although if Romeu does start I'm not going to have a fit about it, either. I like Romeu. He certainly deserves a look. But I also like Wanyama. And Clasie. And Reed.

I'm just tired of this thing where we single out players as heroes and villains. It was like, three days ago where people were moaning about Romeu playing over Reed and I was saying we hadn't really seen what Romeu could do. And it wasn't just about those two players. That was a springboard to accuse Koeman of being arrogant/clueless/hating youngsters, and the board and KL were cheap buying these crappy players for cheap.

Now it's like Romeu is great. And we need to send Wanyama some sort of message to punish him. When we played Mane after a worse transgression, and VVD kept preying after a brain fart that was at least equal to Wanyama's.

Maybe the board and manager aren't totally incompetent and we have several good midfielders at our disposal.

For all the talk of the Mané incident, to shed some light on what actually happened...

There was a team meeting organised for the evening in the hotel conference room (as usual). That same evening the meeting was brought forward by ten minutes, with the message sent to the players who were in the hotel. Players do not share rooms anymore.

Sadio was unaware of the time change - supposedly sleeping - and turned up ten minutes late. Ronald then punished him for being late.

So yes, he was late, but perhaps not such a flagrant breaking of Ronald's rules as some will have imagined.

Mane played hard last game. His finishing sucked, but I doubt he was missing on purpose.

Agreed - he could have easily chosen to duck out of the one where he clashed with their GK but instead went for it
