Like you say, he's 21 years old, is in his first PL season and is getting used to the pace of the game. The club should not have thrown him in without someone alongside him to take the goalscoring burden off him. He was never going to score 15-20 goals in his first season. What last night showed to me was that he badly needs someone to play off. He is getting in to the right positions, is doing the right things, is great at bringing others into the game and is a major handful. When you think that he's probably low on confidence in front of goal, to take a penalty and score in 49,000 people with the pressure on takes some major bottle.
And you saw what it meant to him, I haven't seen anyone celebrate like that in a long time in a Toon shirt! He loves the club and we need to give him some love back!
We have two 21yr old strikers with the weight of expectation on their shoulders to be scoring every week. Give them a break. Look at Lukaku. He is unbelievable at 22 coming up 23. He was rated as one of the best young strikers in the world when Chelsea bought him. He struggled. Even at Everton last year he only bagged about 10 goals in the league. At international level I think his record is more like 1 in 4. I can't imagine anyone would sniff at paying out 25m for him now. He has matured, has learnt more about his game and the game in general. Mitrovic and Perez will get there. Its the club to blame. They should have had the players ahead of them to allow them to come along. Cisse is not that guy. If we'd had Austin this season, perhaps Mitrovic wouldn't have come. Perhaps he would. Certainly if you'd had Austin banging them in it would have forced Mitrovic to up his game, and he'd have had someone to learn from. Its catch 22 of course with clubs of our standing. The Mitrovics don't really fancy a club like Newcastle just to watch. They accept it at a top end club but not us.
This is the thing for me - the penny pinching cost us, we wouldn't let player go who didn't want to be here (Cisse/Tiote) and we're only finally getting our act together. But Cisse is not fit for the number 9 shirt, that's where a leader should be. I don't think Austin is right for us, it just doesn't feel right, it's taken too long - if it happens now, it's for the wrong reasons. Same with Berahino. I'd rather we just gave Mitrovic the number 9, flogged Cisse for whatever China/Qatar will give us and bring in Andre Gray to help him learn English ropes. Imagine that strike force next year - Mitrovic, Gray, Perez, Armstrong, De Jong.
I'm honestly of the opinion that Carr is nothing more than a standard scout with a patchy track record. How he sits on the 'board' is beyond me.
Can you let me know which day because this I would love to see. Or did you mean decent at joinery or plumbing? He sure as **** isn't a footballer. He is garbage. I can confirm what Mitrovic and him will look like together. A 21 yr old with some promise but far from the finished article. And a plumber who Monaco fans rejoiced when he left their football club. Though the toilets have never worked the same since. Jesus wept, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet lads and accept we've bought an absolute duffer.
Haha I was being totally tongue in cheek. This is one of Graham Carr's many criminal acts. How he thought that Riviere would make it in the PL. We all knew what would happen before we signed him.
Well I feel a whole lot better now. For just one minute there I thought Mike had finally driven 2 fans into the world of make believe with his stupidity.
Well, true but who knows next time he's fit maybe he staggers his silly clumsy ass into a bit of form. He's got pace at least. I'd take him on the bench over whatever else we have on the bench right now. At least when you're 1-0 he can charge down the pitch and ask some questions. Neither Mitro nor Cissé will do that for you. Riviere reminds me of Best. Best did a solid job for us, got the odd important goal. He was no world beater but he did a job and I think Riviere can do the same. Also..did we really pay 12 mio for Thauvin..and we give him run outs in the cup? How can it be? We loan out Cabella who cost us 10 mio because he didn't quite set the league alight and then replace him with an even more expensive dude whom we won't even give one start to? That's the problem at our club, a guy is bought, over hyped at his photoshoot then he comes onto the pitch has a bit of stinker and then he's just considered a dud for life. We've got through so many players who were decent, then **** with us moved on to be quite decent once again.
Yep. Shola did the exact same job vs Man Utd, if you remember, and yesterday was the best Mitro has ever played. Shola is, quite hilariously faster, and a much better finisher (very funny, but sadly true). He is a perma crock, but plays on, which reduces his work rate and always has done, but Mitrovic can be a lazy **** as well and he's healthy.
Decent? I couldn't care less if my grandmother would like him TBH. And when Mitro stands next to the post on opposition corners that's pretty similar.
