Interim manager Alan Curtis says Englishman Shelvey was not "hounded out" and should not direct any criticism at club

Shelvey had said “the Swansea fans got on my back a bit at the end" and his departure is "Obviously it is going to be Swansea’s loss."

Jonjo Shelvey's recent comments following his £12m move to Newcastle United have proved once again why Swansea City are better off without the midfielder. If his recent poor performances and questionable attitude wasn't enough to convince you why it made sense to sell for more than twice the money they bought him for, then his recent comments should do it.

Firstly, the arrogance of the man is quite incredible. He's still on 23 years of age, and he thinks he's something special, even more so after being called up to the England team to face their weaker opposition during their Euro 2016 qualification campaign. But like Curtis said, Shelvey is easy to manage when he's in the team every week - but not so when he isn't. And another point that he made was how Shelvey feels that he should be in the team all the time:

"The thing is with Jonjo, and the problem, is he is such a good player. You are reluctant to let your best players go but sometimes there comes a time where it's best probably to shake hands and people just move on. That's the way it has always been.'

"He is frustrated and he gets frustrated anyway, Jonjo,"

"I've said before, Jonjo's not a problem when he's in the team and then he can sometimes be a bit moody and a little bit petulant when he's not in the team, because Jonjo obviously thinks he should be in the team all the time.

"He lost his place, I think, through suspension and he hasn't quite got back into it but the players who have got in in front of him have done well, certainly in the league games and he's got to work hard to get back into the side."
