Mbemba seemed to maraud forwards a few times, not quite sure what to do with the ball when he got there, although at the same time you need that sort of thing sometimes when you're looking to open teams up. One positive for us was Rooney, who looked on point for the first time this season for a full 90 mins, hopefully he'll kick on from here.

Colback looked knackered, he must regret not hitting that chance with his right foot.

Ha we don't worry about our quality mate, it's the way they're told to play that worries us.

Smalling's been the best centre half in the league bar none, that's the first time he's been bullied like that this season... I'll blame Mitrovic if he doesn't immediately recover!

I think we fully deserved the point. We could have taken more if we'd been a little bit cuter in a few respects. If Mbemba had taken a little more care and been a bit more selective when to range forward (I wouldn't want to stop it all together as you need it), if we could put our chances away, if we'd been a little bit more devil/theatrical with regards to Feillani/Smalling. I know its not what you want to see, i.e. helping refs to make decisions but its the nature of the game here, and also if Mike Dean could take Van Gaals chopper out of his throat.

Good performance overall but we need wins.

Two draws is crap for us, next season, let's shake on a win each so we both end up with an extra point <ok>

  8. I went for a three game accumulator; Palace, Man Utd and Man City to win. Done well there didn't I; Palace lost, Man Utd drew and Man City haven't played yet <laugh>

It's the English players that know how to get under the ref's skin, the best players always do it, make him overthink his job.

You've not got any English players! <laugh>

Saying that, Shelvey seems the type to do it.

  11. Yep. If you don't argue decisions then the ref finds it easy to make a decision. Arguing puts him under pressure. Its wrong and shouldn't be in the game but until the authorities come up with a way of combating it it will happen. If your team doesn't do it then you're giving the opposition an advantage.

Think part of the problem is the limited number of elite refs for Premier League. They are too familiar with teams and they pre-judge in some cases. You see them chatting away to the players when they come off at half time. They have a number of 50-50 decisions to give in a game and I am sure they are influenced by this familiarity. Thought the first pen last night was harsh but understand why he gave it. 2nd pen would often not be given as well but think they should be given more.

The best ref we ever had in the late 90s and early 00s was Shearer. never shut up all game and was always telling refs what to do. Annoying as **** for other teams, but it does make a difference.

Louis van Gaal: Man Utd could have scored six at Newcastle

    So, why didn't they?

We could have scored 6 as well. Harks back to that classic 6-6 with Tranmere in Zenith Data Cup in 1991 with a penalty shoot out to boot!

  16. As I said above, whilst the authorities are too gutless to do something about it then teams should be applying pressure.

However, it is about time referees were made to wear microphones that are broadcast to live TV too. Players would soon stop the abuse when millions can hear them. Works in rugby.

And probably 99% of the time would show the refs in a much more positive light by helping us understand their decision making (which they get right more than they get wrong)
