I thought he did quite well when he was on loan at, who was it Cardiff? Got an England call up Then went to QPR alongside Rio in a very poor side. Showed great potential but kind of lost his way To be honest, it would be disappointing if he was any worse than what we have. Chips in with the odd goal. Im happy to give him a chance. Good age for a centre back for Klopp to bring on
worried we have not signed a striker yet,we have not threat upfront with benteke and striker is a must before the window closes
I'm starting to think the money won't be available until the summer. Especially with the waste in the summer by Rodgers.
There's money there, klopp won't use it in January unless it's some kind of chance in a lifetime transfer, he's pretty much said this since joining us, he wants to evaluate the players here before going and getting players from the market, he seems like a man of his word to me so I really wouldn't expect a striker in Jan
Think it was the Times that reported but he was willing to buy Matip in January but Schalke were unwilling to listen so we'll be forced to target him in the summer. If we can't get the players we want in January, then there's no point spending big money on short term targets in January.
In answer to question on set piece. Caulker has scored a few in a couple season so yeah he's ok on attacking set piece. Defending.... well.... he's tall. He's 24. What we can say is we are worried about sahko constant injuries and toure ain't up to 90mins and ilori isn't fit or a strong lad. Therefore Klopp might be thinking skertl and lovern both did hamstrings and either could go again I needed someone But ...
So what do we do? Spend millions on a flop or zero on a flop? The thing is we can do without more ****in' passengers. I say give the bloke a chance, but it has this transfer committee all over it, this one. I'm starting to worry for Klopp now, not in his abilities as a manager, but in how people are perceiving his judgement. People can't look beyond the money we've spent on the dross in the squad and it's understandable because we have no quality in the side, and though most acknowledge these are Rodgers' players, Klopp can't seem to get them kickstarted and playing as a team. We're still too patchy and inconsistent. If we have a poor window this month it will reflect badly on him because people won't look beyond that.
If that is the player we're targeting for CB then signing Caulker on loan as a stop gap until he arrives makes sense. If Caulker does well (unlikely as it may seem right now) than we could look at signing him too. I like the no risk factor to it, just not convinced it will get us where we want to be in the longer term.
All (majority) the big transfers happen in the Summer window, very rarely do you get a big player moving in Jan (nowadays).. The fact we aren't in the market ties in with what Klopp has said from the start, he wants to assess the entire squad before deciding who he can trust and who he can't..
I think we will have to see. If theres a precontract to matip then it will be officially announced. its in the metro now but you know how that goes. they've picked it up off a german website probably. however it was reported such discussions might be happening as far back as december. So if this is announced by the club ok fine. Matip is a french speaking (cameroon) 6'4" right sided CB. We have a french nutter at LCB.... a good mix perhaps? who knows. But it might put pressure on Skertl in a way that toure and ilori never will. another nail in the coffin of ilori there
Well, we got Sturridge in the January window but that was a lucky punt - until he got injured. Now he's just a drain I'm sorry to say. We could do with more lucky punts. I know it's pot luck more often than not, but it shouldn't have to be. We should pay what these players are worth. I'll say this about Jimmy Hill God Rest Him: he has a lot to answer for in a way. He's left a legacy of stupid money for greedy, lazy buggers in all clubs not just ours.
