Wijnaldum is the best player we have and up there with Cabaye as the best player we've had in the past decade (after only a handful of months with us). He will not be with us for long. He's scored twice as many goals (8) as anyone else in our team. I actually think he'll be a Man Utd player in a couple of years.
At risk of wading into a turf war (pardon the pun) don't you need to wait until you're above them in the league before making such comments? We get the same from Sunderland fans every time we lose and i look at the table and wonder which position of strength they think they have.
Very good player, I think the commentator said he was bought from PSV. Probably the best dutch player on the pitch tonight. Correction, the best player on the pitch full stop.
ps. I would prefer to sell him to Liverpool as you would undoubtedly give us twice the amount #carrollagainplease
Nope, I'm happy to call it now (in fact quite a while ago) that so long as they keep Van Gaal we're going to finish above them. Even with our massive injury crisis.
Fair play. I really like Klopp and certainly rate him higher than LVG though mostly as LVG just hasn't been the manager i was expecting at Man Utd. I think you're wrong but its likely to be a close call.
I am feeling a bit better after this game. LVG will be livid but I don't care. We should have won the game but at least it was exciting . When was the last time an exciting game involved United ? Clearly the players were under instruction to move the ball quicker into the opposition half. Whether it is LVG or Giggs or anyone else, we wont know. The jury is still out on his selections and his substitutions. The test will be not only how we do against the deluded RS but how we play at home.
And look what happens when you attack, and move the ball forward into the oppositions area with intent......a more entertaining game. But you ship goals.....every time this happens, you ship goals.....again...hmmmm strange..........I wonder why.......... please log in to view this image
Anyway, that's your story. We get one other centre half fit, preferably Jones, and it goes away. Blind to left back and Darmian to right back, quite simple really. Whether van Gaal will do this though is anyone's guess.
I wont carry on, because Stan will get upset and accuse me of over simplifying things. But its been clear to me for a whole year, that LvG has had your team playing on egg shells to compensate for the fact that you have a less than satisfactory defence. Your attacking players are stellar. Martial, Depay. Mata, Rooney, Januzaj plus you had Di Maria last season too. I rate all those players. You could argue the case that you have one of the top 3 attacking teams of the league. Which is why, in the summer, when LvG was not signing defenders, I was baffled. Again, I might get accused of over simplifying things, but he just seems, rather than investing in some defensive talent, to over compensate by signing great attackers, and having them play defensively!? Just seems wacko to me. You surely must see that when your team plays sideways and backwards passing and cannot buy a goal for love nor money, that you are tighter than a nuns undies. Yet everytime they venture forward and have a go, gaping holes are left at the back?
In the case of last night though, we had a left winger playing at right back, at right back playing at left back, a left back playing at centre half and one centre half. The defence last night isn't, or at least shouldn't be, our defence. Get everyone fit and our defence is sound. What we needed was a decent defensive centre mid in front of them, and he went out and got us two. The trouble for me is he plays both and I really don't think we need to, that's way too cautious and is the root cause of our side to side slow play. I happen to believe Schweinsteiger is right out of the top drawer as a player but unfortunately he's also part of the problem because van Gaal always plays another defensive minded player alongside him. Stick Herrera next to him and we're good to go. Or, pick Herrera and Schniederlin together, also good to go. He's too programmatic. Or scared, call it what you will but he's not minded to attack and throw a bit of caution to the wind nearly enough.
Well yeah part of the problem is not having a settled defence, as well as personnel imo. I haven't really paid much attention to who he has been playing at the back in recent games. Is he more or less playing the same players each game or is he chopping and changing due to injuries and whatnot?
So what do we all think..................We wanted him to send out a team to attack - they did.........a good number of us (myself included) said we would rather the team drew or lost but went down all guns blazing............so we got what we asked for. The question is, having experienced both styles of play in recent games would we have rather had the three points. On another point, Blind is causing us so many problems at the back. He is pretty solid on the ball but his poor positional play exposes us too many times - Texas is crap too, no defensive instinct at all, he just stops dead when the ball goes anywhere near our box and just watches.
I'd rather watch that and finish 6th than watch what we've been subjected to all season and finish 5th. The fact is that however we play under this manager we aren't finishing 4th this season. Regardless of how we play he is tactically out thought in the majority of games. So it may as well be entertaining until such time as the board bite the bullet and appoint a manager who understands the PL.
In Astro's world Liverpool have been the dominant force in English football since he jumped onto the bandwagon in the 80's!
Chief's answered your comments with blindingly obvious logic so there's no need for me to contribute!
