You sound like a scouser Fergie hadn't managed a "massive" club before us but he did ok. Every manager has to step up at some time or they are just treading water.
Watched the U21s again tonight (3-1 win), they still play like a United team. LvG obviously has no input to their style of play, either that or Warren just thinks "**** you".
Some good talent in that side Treble (Keane got a hat trick but 2 were pens). They play a very cohesive game which, when you take into account the team changes week by week due to loans and players moved to the first team squad, is a very hard thing to keep up. It can only be because they are all drilled in the same way, like it used to be right through the club.
From the BBC - 'Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says he has been "very bored" during some games this season.'........... Sounds like a man intent on the sack to me.
Indeed. If a club like Real are willing to take a gamble on a journeyman like Zidane, then Pochettino definitely shouldn't be below Man United. Who knows, maybe Zidane will be an unmitigated disaster, but sometimes you have to take the plunge.
Interesting term to use for Zidane! He is one of the greatest ever players and has never managed a club so he's not a journeyman in either instance. Shergar has this strange obsession with us only having proven winners in the very top of European (or world) football coming to the club. Anything is just is not good enough. Moyes failed, therefore people seeking or deserving of promotion are ruled out as a matter of course. This method would have ruled out Ferguson yet van Gaal is acceptable. So, works every time clearly.
lol agreed. But Journeyman is the perfect term to use for Zidane, as a manager I mean, its definition: A journeyman is an individual who has completed an apprenticeship and is fully educated in a trade or craft, but not yet a master One assumes that Zidane has completed or is at least doing, his coaching badges and is educated in the craft of management, but has not yet proven himself a "master" as he has not yet managed a team as first team coach. I obviously wasn't referring to his abilities as a player, as a player he was one of the best in the world.
That's interesting. I've not looked at a definition but I admit that's not how I've ever interpreted the meaning of journeyman. It's often referred to in golf for instance, for players who've middled around on tour for years without ever having won anything. Similarly with journeyman tennis players, hanging around in the worlds top 40 on tour making a living without ever winning.
Maybe the meaning has become somewhat skewed. I always defined it as a qualified professional who hasn't ever really done anything outstanding. Either because he is mediocre or has not yet had a chance to shine
I am not sure the term is used in that sense in football. A journeyman footballer is a footballer who is competent although not at the top of his profession and changes club fairly frequently. For example, Savage could be classed as a journeyman. Too early to class Zidane as journeyman manager but possibly could be classed as a rookie or apprentice. On the topic of managers: United will be looking at the likes of Mourinho, Guardiola, and other managers of big clubs. But I think they could do worse than giving Pochettino a chance. he has got premiership experince and has done well for the clubs he has managed so far.
I'd take him next season at Chelsea, give him a shot, why not. Done well at Saints and Spurs, and like you say, he knows the league.
I really enjoy watching youth football. It's refreshing to see players express themselves without getting too bogged down with tactics.
