Just changing subject for a minute, do we all remember Mr Maguire's outburst regarding non-playing staff and company cars recently? Well it would be interesting at the next fans forum (when?) to ask how many of his personally selected recent appointments to follow him from Stockport County have been given company cars as part of their package. I'll leave you to put two and two together on this one.
Some of the cars given to the new staff are the remnants from the previous regime that still have time on the contracts. For example, Brownies old car's still being used until its contract runs out and then will be replaced by something more cost effective. I'd say that's more cost effective than sitting them in car park and hiring other cars on top myself.
Does the Fans Forum still exist? Do we have a voice? Seems to me that the club does read the various message boards given some of the coded announcements we get on OWS. But what the f*ck does Danny Pratt do? From what OLM says about his meetings and his apparent connections within the club, I'd put him forward as the fans voice. Apart from a few delinquents that appear on here just to have a dig at him, whether I agree with his posts or not they do appear thought through and more often than not representative of the fans thoughts. There's posters on other sites (Amber Nectar + CI etc) who may be put forward, but seem to have bloody great chips on their shoulders and are probably gobby only via their keyboards. Whether we need to know about company cars or not I don't know, but it seems to me there are quite a few issues where the fans aren't being listened to.Policing/car park/sponsors logo to name 3.
Its pretty easy to cancel a company car contract. And you admit yourself 'some'. There are new company cars for new staff, which seems odd given his very public stance.
I'll await a link where I claimed to be an expert on company cars. As I recall it my argument was that i was surprised that we had so few company cars for non-playing staff and they really werent the biggest issue facing the club. It wouldnt bother me in the slightest about new staff getting new company cars if it hadnt been highlighted as a problem by the very man who then sanctioned new ones.
That rather depends on the contract. Clearly some are more difficult than others or they'd have been cancelled too. As it is, they can't so they make best for a short period. I understand all concerned, including the drivers, will be happier when it's sorted. The tax on some of the cars is huge, so they all want rid ASAP. Then again, if you know a way out, my understanding is that they'd be grateful to know that so they can get them back ASAP. Give them a ring, I reckon they'll be genuinely delighted to hear what you've got to say.
Has he sanctioned new ones? I know he and others are not happy at having to stick with existing contracts.
I dont pick up a 6-figure salary from Hull City AFC. He's paid to work out how to do the same the fleet team at my last company managed successfully.
From what I gather, he's managing very, very well to get rid of what he has done, given they're not contracts taken out by any of the current management team. In fact I'd hazard a guess his employers think so too, which could account for some of the difference between his and your salaries.
The problem with the whole company car argument for new employees all depends on what their remuneration package is as a whole. These are all IFS but if they new employees take a lower salary and a company car I dont see the problem,or if they make a contribution towards the company car I dont see a problem this would also reduce any benefit in kind and therefore reduce their own tax liability and any class 1A national insurance liability payable by City. So to summarise until we know full details of each persons remuneration package and that which was originally happy we cant really coment and we will never know these details.
I totally agree. But that stacks up on the old criticism he made in the press when he himself singled out company cars as a massive issue. I want to reiterate I havent got a problem whatsoever with employees taking company cars - Ive had them myself in the past and they made good economic sense for both me and my employer - what Ive got a problem with is staff with them being made the scapegoat and then he goes and does exactly the same.
Do you have a link to the comments you're referring to? I recall some comments that spoke of the lack of quality in the contracts and questioned some of those that received high value cars, but I'm not sure it was a sweeping "no company car" call, or was it?
No, it wasnt a no company car rule. He clearly states however at the link happily included: http://www.thisishullandeastriding....-Tigers-cuts/story-12772490-detail/story.html "The people of Hull would be pretty shocked by some of the issues we have had to address. For example, at one stage the company was paying for as many as 30 company cars (to non-playing staff), and it is this kind of situation which is an insult to the club and fans." My point throughout this thread has been, why is he offering new employees he has directly hired new cars then? Any further questions?
So, he said we had too many contracts and they were of a poor nature, we've now got many less and they're better deals and is making best of the few remaining old regime deals he couldn't negotiate out of. Presumably he's offering some vehicles as that's the industry standard package. Who knows? Clearly not you, but it's reasonable to assume his bosses are happy with his deals. Just a wild guess, but I take it your interview didn't go as well as you'd hoped?
That he is giving new employees new company cars and that directly goes against what he criticised the previous regime for. I dont know how many times I can make the same point.
But he hasn't gone directly against it has he? He said we had too many and poor quality, we've now got less and better quality. You'll need to keep remaking the point in the hope one version gets close to matching your allegation. So far you've failed as far as I can see.
If one criticises there been too many of something, and then one directly gets new ones of said thing, I would say that is nonsensical. Or perhaps I am wrong afterall?
Yep, you're wrong. Expensive deals to too many of the wrong people, was his claim. He's now got less vehicles, on better deals to what he and his bosses feel are the right people. I honestly cannot see what your issue is here. Clearly the vehicles are a symptom of your problem, so what is your actual problem? Has he passed you over for a job?
Sounds like complete non issue to me. Just out of interest, who has he brought in from Stockport, what do they do and what cars have they got?
