With the greatest of respect my understanding of a conversation WJ and I had was that he was unhappy with the current arrangements and was advocating some changes, in the very polite face to face conversation we had I expressed a concerned opinion that his suggestions risked upsetting how the board currently works ( hence my use of the terms set up).

What has since transpired seems to suggest the supermods are looking at making changes, changes which I fear might be seen by our excellent board mods as undermining them. This might not have been jocks intention but IMO it was always a potential outcome. Our mods even when I get on the wrong side of them are the best on 606 and we don't want to lose them.......

So you're a mind reader now, are you? And a very poor one too if that's your verdict. <doh>
I'll need to take your word for it. I'm not a Mod, so no idea. Oh, that's right, neither are you! <doh>
Oh, so now you're speaking on behalf of all contributors, are you? Bit contradictory. Don't you read your posts before hitting the enter key? <doh>
Just as well you're not a Mod. You'd clear this place out in jig time, just like the Wally board. <yikes>

    Oh, wait a minute .... <doh>

I have voted no to the specific question asked, without reading anyone else's tuppence worth as I felt it was the best way to respond.

To be clear though, I have been more irritated that entertained by our exiled poster, and can't believe he was so blinkered and self-obsessed as to leave the mods with no option but to ban him.

As I've stated elsewhere, the outcome was solely of his making and choosing, and I completely support the action taken.

Having waded through the threads where issues arose, I still can't help but see them as low to mid-level issues, in contrast to some of the abuse you see on other social media channels (and those I have dealt with when running Govt. social media) for example there are live comments on Youtube today - religious hate comments about Bowie is going to Hell where he deserves to be, alongside Freddie Mercury, these have not been removed.

I'm not keen on banning people unless there is real offence caused or litigious behaviour or the post is spam - perhaps take a guide from a large social media platform's T's and C's.

    For Not606:
    • Super Mods - formally trained in social media moderation - this site is after all a commercial venture
    • Club Mods - guidance and learnings from the Super Mods courses handed down to club mods, with written PDF guidance, perhaps even offer formal distance learning training if affordable.
    • Posters that irritate another - down to the individual to put on block, then escalate to Club Mod if necessary.
    • If complaints are received, Club Mod deletes the individual post any counter post within a thread and issue a warning.
    • Delete the whole thread if its all about an offensive argument
    • Understand what constitutes offensive - don't let this be subjective. There are times when people need to grow a pair and stop taking offence at low level insults. There are times when behaviour is unacceptable.
    • Run exit surveys - if people are saying they are leaving, understand what the problem is and whether they are too sensitive, whether the forum is overall not appealing or whether an individual is truly disruptive/offensive and is causing the problem. Give findings to all Mods and marketing team.
    • Recruitment and marketing - get more visitors and more people contributing to the forums. A small group will always have standout posts/contributors and therefore issues will be more visible. More people will generate more threads and posts, retaining and attracting new users.
    • Understand why more visitors don't sign-up or post - undertake an open survey on the site. Elland has always encouraged people who are browsing to get involved, I've never seen a survey from the company as yet, to identify what can be done to get more fans on board. (personally I find the interface on this site far better and clearer than other forums which is why I stay here).
I support our Club Mods and feel they get caught in the middle a bit. To me the fact we are debating this, means its not a cut and dry case and the whole issue is one of an individual's view / subjectivity is in play. This is why detailed guidance is important for posters and mods alike, as is clarity on how unwelcome posts or threads will be dealt with.
