Lyrically, one of the things that has always impressed me with Bowie was his ability to write a couple of lines that seemed, to me anyway, to be packed with deep insight and crackle with meaning.

    For example;

    I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim

As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent
You asked for the latest party

    Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do.

    Simple poetry.

    But poetry all the same.

So many good memories of his songs over the years and I learnt to play guitar from his songbook in the early 70's. Member the phenomenal success when he had about 7 albums in the chart at the same time.

Already picked "My Death" for my funeral even though not written by him (it's a great Jacques Brel song, like Seasons in the Sun) but my wife said it's too sad. Unfortunately cancer got her last summer, so just the rest of the family will have to crack up.

There's so much I could say about him and Mick Robson's influence on my music taste (and 70's dress and hairstyles) but let's let him truly rest in peace.

This sad news starkly brought into focus the astonishing amount of Bowie's songs that genuinely sound-tracked my life .Kudos to Quill for all the videos.

I might end up repeating songs at this point, so apologies if I do.

Let's Dance shouldn't even be in a Top 30, never mind bloody second.

I might try and write a top 25. If I do, I'll post it on here, unless someone wants another thread on it (I think it should stay here).

Bowies writing was always emotionally charged , it was there in his vocals . It made his music feel so personal even if he changed his persona over n over - a rare genius of pop writing .

Didn't even know he was ill so it was a shock to see the news this morning. Rebel Rebel was on of the first singles I ever bought. The world has lost an incredible talent - RIP David

One of the lesser loved Bowie songs I think!

I don't think I could do a top 10 now, no idea how I did it on there.

It would be much different to that one too I think.

I like that me putting Breaking Glass in second place and being the only person to put it in their top 10 still got it a final position <laugh>
