Gobsmacked. A man who was probably one of the most innovative musicians this country has ever produced. For me, his zenith was Ziggy Stardust/ Aladdin Sane in the early 70's. He gave a teenage Rick Wakeman his big break with Space Oddity & Life on Mars (my favourite single) and was always reinventing himself, through the Thin White Duke and his soul phase (Young Americans/ Golden Years). A big loss to this country and the music world. RIP. <peacedove>

I only have one of his albums, Life On Mars but I'm a huge admirer. One of the pioneers and creative genius <wizard> Fabulous songwriter. A great loss <peacedove>

There aren't too many of the original greats left now, very sad. At least we have their fantastic legacy.

I don't give a damn if you're a male choir singer or a multinational rockstar, but if you can play 10 plus instruments, have a 4 octave vocal range and sound that good... I'm not old enough to fully appreciate but respect to where it's due. He made almost everyone else just look... well, average.

And remain grounded by using public transport instead of a private jet, and no superstar illusions. Will be sadly missed, but we still have his music. <wizard>

When I seen Bowie singing "Little Drummer Boy " with Bing Crosby on TV many moons ago , and I can't put my finger on why , but I remember thinking at the time there is a lot more to this guy than what most perceived him to be , he was the Andy Warhol of music alright but he was much more than that .His life was a reinventing work of art right up till the day he died imo .What a great life he must of had from the inside looking out .
