We are not a poor club, we get just as much money or the in some cases more than the so called lesser clubs in the league, and look at our level of support week n and week out. How come other clubs can sign players we simply look at ! I guess it's because it costs nothing to look and we are tight. This so called Structure we work within is condemning this club to failure. I think Shelvey would be an okay addition, nothing startling though, l think he may add a bit of bite and we have been missing that, but it's not a wow factor marque signing. So it really makes me despair when it appears that he is "too rich a deal" for this club to contemplate. Back to the bargain bucket again it seems. We are a complete embarrassment these days.
It's because we are a no frills low budget operation with crap incentives, bad weather and rubbish strips.
It is outrageous really that a club with the resources and level of support that we have is in this position when we should really be fighting in the top ten for position, this is all down to Ashley's policy of buying cheap and trying to build value into players and profiting from their sale, it has nothing to do with the evolution of a football club or the development of players and a team beyond that of financial gain. This is aided and abetted by the likes of Carr who is looking to be more and more of a failure who had a flash in the pan initial success and has now scraped his way through the bottom of the barrel and kept going into the floor underneath, I have been very neutral about Ashley over the years even thinking sometimes he has done some positive things for the club but he is destroying this club in so many ways and seems incapable of realising it. Sadly it seems there is nothing that can be done as protests will just be ignored and nowhere near enough fans will support a stadium boycott to make any point, if 30,000 seats were empty it might get through but too many will keep going.
I think he'd be a good signing, but cant see it happening. Will probably end up at a club willing to meet his wage demands. Clubs like Palace, can afford to pay very good wages these days. They've just had a £100m investment and with TV money aren't doing bad financially by any stretch of the imagination. Palace also have a good way of playing with a Manager who seems to know what he's doing. Besides why would any half decent footballer have any desire to come to SJP when they could go and have a good career elsewhere without hassle.
Press reporting we may be interested in Shelvey, however, no bid received from us. We should be bursting the bank for a class finisher before anything else.
All I keep reading is Henri Saivet. I cannot even begin to fathom how fcking idiotic that would be, in every sense (financial, playing, fans opinion). He's just Gouffran, but more injury prone. Everyone can see it. Apart from the geriatric scout and the idiot with the chequebook.
Apparently we are due in France for talks with Saivet tomorrow. Ffs. They are taking the piss. Again.
re Shelvey, take him please, after his effort post-match with the fans you can have the prik, I will fly from Oz and personally deliver the spanner
I thought he Saviet had already expressed doubts about joining a club in our precarious league position? Nothing has changed, so why would he? We really don't need him, as far as l can make out he offers nothing we don't already have. Plus if he is having his arm twisted up his back or is that up his bank account, is he going to scrap for our survival in the cold and rain. I doubt he will have the stomach for it somehow. I want to see some new faces come in this window! But l would rather we signed nobody, than the wrong bodies.
They can **** off with that signing. He is **** and if they really think that he will improve the side then Charnley and Carr need to be shot. I will say this again - Saivet is ****.
On top of the plethora of other clear and obvious problems, the fact we - as GLITF points out - attempt to strong-arm these people into joining our desperate club is insane. Thauvin is the clearest and best example - didn't want to come, several times over. Eventually his petulance at Marseille turns the fans, we throw a stupid amount of money at it and he turns up.....not giving a to$$ and not good enough. Who was surprised? You could look back on this forum and find countless remarks when he signed, we don't even need hindsight!!! Incidentally, I read a match report about Thauvin @ Watford. Apparently late in the game Thauvin got tackled and went down writhing as if shot in front of the away end. Even when it was obvious there was no foul nor was he injured he kept going and apparently even Dummett ran over and shouted at him to get up, which is when the boos and chanting started. £13m spent on this guy. In any other club or even company, that much wastage would see the perpetrator sacked. We have failure built into our DNA, we create mercenaries; I think it's why players move on and don't do well, they have a mentality bored into their skulls that they can just sit back and take the money, nothing else matters. We don't drop under-performers because we have no squad, we don't sack anyone no matter what they do and all because, ultimately. Ashley doesn't care.
I think Shelvey could turn out to be a good signing. The problem is he has a reputation as a nightmare if he is not playing. So what happens if he doesn't perform? Do we then just end up with a tit causing trouble? I think he is a good footballer, not top class but then neither are we. Be a good player for a mid table side which is above our level at present. Obviously british too which is a bonus. Has he got what we need? I'm not convinced. I think we lack a ball player (which could be Gini with Aarons back) and destroyer. He doesn't seem to be either.
Could be done?! Personally i think it's a start but I'd imagine someone (tiote or Siss) will be off http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tml?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490
12m for Shelvey? WOW You have a net spend of over 50m less than 6 months ago and already spending again, you must be in the top 4 for spending this season. I don't get the tight fisted accusations going around. Unless of course I'm missing something? We spent next to nothing in the summer and have so far signed a CB for 750k and next in looks to be a loan signing from Turkey
He's loosened the strings of late [Ashley.] It's more a case of who we are throwing money at. To be honest, £12 million for Shelvey is ridiculous. He's an okay player, but isn't as good as he thinks he is.
