It means something if you're directly comparing the teams.
Swansea and Villa won nothing last season and neither qualified for Europe. Who did better? 8th v 17th? Not much of a contest, is it?
In your opinion, neither did better. Clearly nonsense.

Both Spurs and L'pool have their histories, their past glories. Maybe L'pool's are slightly more recent, but they're all still past glories.

Fact is, neither of us are in the top echelon anymore. We haven't ever won the premiership, in fact only 5 clubs have - four if you discount Blackbum's lone success.

Fact is that the premiership, which I think is the main yardstick of consistency, has been dominated by three teams for the last 10+ years. The rest of us are playing catch up to differing degrees.

We are not comparing those teams tho are we, we are comparing Liverpool and Spurs. For teams with cl/title/trophy aspirations 5th is as good as 17th. If you can't see the logic in that then there's nothing to discuss further really, you be happy with 5th every year and we'll be happy trying to get back in the top 4 and win some stuff on the way hopefully.

How is 5th as good as 17th? 5th means you're on the cusp of CL qualification 17th means you're a hairsbreadth from relegation!

Oh Toby, you and that saints chap, it's like your lost and keep coming in here gloating about ya penis size and 5 mins later realise you have a vagina and your in the wrong room :D

Then again this is the delusional spud thread, where fans of insignificant small clubs can come and be listened to for once so I spose your not lost just bitter ;)

How is 5th any different from 17th bar the rewards for higher placings?

Does 5th give you cl football and all that comes with it? Nope.

That's blinkered thinking. As I say, 5th means firstly, you're in Europe. Secondly, you're there or thereabouts as far as CL qualification goes. 17 th is a whisker from playing championship football!

Yeah apart from money reward and Europa league football, its the only difference, as I said teams with cl/title/trophy aspirations what is 5th to them if they're aiming for top 4? Nothing is what. A failure in my eyes personally, Possibly even an unwanted distraction. For some teams wanting to be in the big boy euro cup.

For me, I want trophies and finals, not 5th every year as it does my club no good in terms of fulfilling those aspirations of top 4 and beyond. I'm sure most of you feel the same tbh

The top four is becoming increasingly hard to break into. The 'money three' City, Utd, Chavski, have been dominating it for some while now, with The Goons usually 4th. If either of us wants to be a CL side, we have to displace one of them.
The Goons are the obvious target due to their reluctance to splash the cash. You just know that as poorly as the other three have been playing, they'll be spending big time come summer - if not now, in Jan.

The Chavs are particulary **** this season, but they'll be back, you just know it.

No mate, to use your analogy, I've wandered into a room where you're bragging about the penis you used to have when you were younger, you still think it's a throbbing love truncheon, but the reality is that you're now holding a flaccid cocktail sausage ;)

No, not right now. This is your best chance, you'd better grab it. If not, you just know the other three will be back and spending big time!..

For sure mate, top 4 may actually be top 3 very soon with Co- efficient points and that, this season has been for a while the best chance to break that 4 possibly for 2 teams.

We seem to be trying our hardest to **** it up even before our current injuries tbh
but we have changed management and had some bad luck with crocked key player's recently+studge all season, so as I've said before as long as we can keep within 7pts from 4th by the business end, with a fit studge (incredible scenes!) one or two January signings doing well and a team a lot more understanding of what Klopp's ideas are then there's always hope lol

You lot have looked consistently solid all season so far so I'm hoping as most teams suffer at some point in a season that you hit some kind of sustained blip soon haha

Dont see Everton as a threat to 4th 5th or 6th... Or 7th :D so it's just us and as I said above were doing all we can to help you finish above us again this year, til next year, which is our one :)

  19. But you're never going to get them, mate! I've been saying that since the days when Benitez was in decline at your club and I was taking the piss out of you. It's what got me banned from your laughably rollercoaster juvenile delusional board!

  20. I'm looking forward to the day when Wenger dies of old age, and you are forced to find a new manager, and you dive straight out of the top 4!
    <laugh>

So many AFC plastics are going to be jumping off buildings, the Government will have to bring in a netting allowance for all highrise blocks across the Home Counties.
