Well, the club has to do something. I read a few days back that Rolland Courbis had been approached by Newcastle United. As in the article, push McClaren to an overseeing function, and bring in a first team manager is actually a sound - and EXTREMELY cheap - option. Rolland seems ideal, French with an absurdly masculine first name.

I would like Ashley to surprise us and make some proactive decisions, sadly he will probably sit on his hands til its too late.

Only just had the opportunity to listen to this debate. Really interesting take on McLaren only being a Number 2 behind a really good manager.
Sometimes that step up to being the Boss or Gaffer is always a step too far.
I remember working with someone for years who really was my " right hand girl" we really complimented each other. Where one was weaker in skill or knowledge the other made up for it, it made for a formidable team.
When l left she took over and despite her undoubted talent, she could not mske it work.
The comments in the video reminded me of that scenario. We still need reinforcement on the pitch, but the MCLaren thing is real food for thought.

It really is food for thought. I've seen it where I am, girl was an excellent support act, given a sales manager type role and literally has no idea what she's doing, just essentially does as she's told by the GM. It's not even a negative trait, I couldn't manage for toffee, worked that out a while ago, but we're all good at what we're good at. I think Steve probably has a lot to offer. As a senior figure he can impart a lot of knowledge, probably better than a passionate type such as Keegan could, but what we need is a leader of men in charge. As in the video, Pochettino is exactly that kind of authoritative figure, as are many of the best managers in the league. An ideal scenario would be the appointment of a strong figure to lead the performances on the pitch, supported by Simpson, Cathro and McClaren.

I have said all along he looks to me a good coach or number 2. You can't switch to that once you've employed him as a manager though. Some do suit that step up, many want it, but sadly some just never get it right. I think McClaren is in the latter bracket.
