Guardian has an interesting article today about Arsenal's January transfer window. Wenger says that he will be 'busy' and that he cannot comment on Elneny yet as 'nothing has been confirmed' (which suggests the deal is being done) The big surprise though is that Debuchy may be allowed to leave if somebody makes a bid. Personally I'd sell him and recall Jenkinson. Bellerin has established that RB spot as his own and Chambers can fill in there if needed, but I'd rather see Jenkinson pushing Bellerin. I don't see Debuchy ever reclaiming that RB spot again and at 30 his career is moving toward its conclusion. Thoughts ? http://www.theguardian.com/football...ansfer-window-mohamed-elneny?CMP=share_btn_fb
I think the writing's on the wall, you would have expected him to at least start on Monday, and he didnt, so that's that I guess. Are we allowed to recall Jenkinson? Isn't he on a year loan?
Poor guy, those injuries really messed everything for him, he was France's number 1 RB, was always solid for us, but missed so much from 2 bad injuries, and never looked as good after returning again this season.
Poor guy, these injuries really have knocked him back. I can't ever see him regaining a starting spot from bellerin but January seems a weird time to sell him as it could disrupt our defensive unit. If jenks can come back then great but id prefer this to happen in the summer for continuity.
I feel for Debuchy, he is just not the same player. Everytime I watch him play, he looks like an accident waiting to happen. Whether Jenkinson now playing consistently would be happy to come back and sit on the bench is another matter. Funny thing is I raised this topic at a party last weekend, my mate seems to think Jenkinson a life long Gooner will be happy to come and sit on the bench.
As has already been said, Debuchy is clearly a good player, but the injuries he has suffered have affected him quite massively. I don't know whether it's physical or mental (perhaps both), but he doesn't look half the player he was at Newcastle. I think if Jenkinson would get recalled, he'd get a lot more game time, but it seems to me as if Wenger doesn't play Debuchy because he knows that there's a mistake in him waiting to happen and this leads to Bellerin getting overplayed. It is a shame and I do feel we need to move him on, but I'm not sure January is the time to do it because the chances of Carl getting recalled isn't likely, especially considering he's a first team regular for West Ham. I'd still rather have Debuchy as our second choice fullback than Chambers for the time being though!
It does look like he's on his way out - especially as the boss keeps saying "he could go" but never says "I want to keep him" or "there's still space for him here"/"we want to keep our best players" ect It's a shame as it'll really weaken our squad depth for a crucial part of the season whereas we won't get a decent replacement until Jenks comes back in the summer
Wenger's probably sympathetic to his needs and knows how important it is for Debuchy to get into the french team, but would rather he doesn't go. But I'm with you, i'd rather he doesn't go and weaken our right side.
Sometimes Wenger is just too nice. He needs to either bring Jenks's loan to an end first or Debuchy should have to wait until the Summer. There's no point weakening the squad just to appease one player.
I thought that was the case until the end of the season ? But surely there would be a clause in that if we needed him ?
I'm with you gents, we should recall Jenks should Debuchy go out on loan. Why should we weaken ourselves and not recall OUR player back when we need them?
It depends if there is a clause to allow us to recall jenkinson or not, if there is then obviously recalling him is the easiest way to deal with Debuchy leaving. I can imagine Wenger thinking that we haven't had to use Debuchy and that chambers can cover at RB and just letting him leave, especially if El Neny is signed and others come back from injury in midfield so that chambers is only needed to cover at the back. Which would most likely be fine but a couple of injuries along the back line and all of a sudden we start looking light.
It depends on the loan conditions. Some loans (especially ones with a transfer fee) dont have a recall clause (the falcao deal is like this i think).
