I thought I'd watch it again just in case. That tackle wouldn't have broken a toddler's leg. There was chance of getting hurt jumping up in the air and falling down after the contact.

It was a foul but he exaggerated the reaction. Understandable in the circumstances, he was making it clear he'd been fouled. All players do it.

Not the same as a dive in that he didn't fake a foul but theatrical all the same. It wasn't leg breaker, just a plain foul. There was hardly any momentum by the time he made contact.

Anyway, this is just deflection from the main event.

And that is how yesterday really whetted the appetite for what promises to be another stellar performance on Tuesday night.

I, for one, can not wait.

We may be able to nick a draw at Newcastle. I can't see how we'll get any kind of a result at Liverpool despite the fact they are ****ing awful but I think a lacklustre defeat there could spell the end for LVG.

It was obvious yesterday that his mind is in a mighty muddle. We started the second half with a striker on the left wing, a DCM at 10, and a 10 on the right wing. He's killing these players.

I watched Newcastle yesterday and they played pretty well. Carved Watford open plenty of times but nobody to put the ball in. You'd be a brave man not to back 0-0

It just shows how bad it's got for us creatively, that we are unable to create chances against a league 1 side at home. So if we can't create chances against them, then how do we expect to do so against PL opposition?

I was almost dissapointed that we got the last minute penalty, as its masked over just what a dire performance it was, and we'll probably have to sit few atleast a few more games of LVGs useless philosophy.

I wouldn't even say fair play to Sheffield United, as a team of Sunday League players would have half a chance of keeping a clean sheet against us. We really don't offer anything in attack these days

You're right but you're talking after the event... and in hindsight yes. But if you're Depay, in that moment you don't know that, and naturally react to studs sliding in on shin. Unless you're saying he should have just let him going through him in the hope it was or wasn't going to hurt him. I find myself labouring a point I don't really want to lol, but I don't condone diving and gaining advantage from it. I think we can agree on on that.

It was definitely a foul as the defender was stupid enough to try to slide in and made contact with the shin. Whether Depay should have stayed on his feet or made a meal of it is beside the point. It was a clear foul and if players exagerate it to make sure the ref sees it, so what? Most strikers like Owen, shearer, Lineker have said they have done it themselves when they've been fouled. That moron is just trying to wum.

For me, United was so poor that they didn't deserve to win. That stupid defender got LVG out of jail.

Why is everyone who disagrees with you a moron or a wum? (Or in my case, both). I've said it was a foul several times now. I don't think Depay should have stayed on his feet unless the foul was that weak it wasn't enough to bring him down. All my point was was that there's no need for the theatrics.

Sure. Some do the theatrics some don't. It is not against the rules of the game. We tend to frown upon these players (used to be mostly in the continent) who when fouled do 10 rolls on the grass. If people cheat then they should be yellow carded but not if they've been fouled for real.

It could be stamped out if players were booked for it or punished retrospectively in some way. I don't think just because someone has been fouled they're absolved of any blame for 'simulation'.

It is not simulation if they've been fouled. That's the point you are missing. If they are not fouled then it is. <ok>

I don't like the diving and the simulation when they've been no contact. I don't get too exercised when there's been a foul. There cannot be a simulation if there is a foul.

"In association football, diving is an attempt by a player to gain an unfair advantage by falling to the ground and possibly feigning an injury, to appear as if a foul has been committed. Dives are often used to exaggerate the amount of contact present in a challenge"

    Admittedly just nicked off Wikipedia.

Did you read the second sentence?

The problem is that you're taking the second sentence out of context. The second sentence only applies once the first is established, ie. the first establishes a dive is to get an unfair advantage.

Not that I think he did anything other than a natural reaction to being tackled with studs, but for the sake of argument if we go with the action of exaggeration here.

Perhaps he's a United player and therefore whether it was a foul or not we should still burn him? <whistle>

Some people have absolutely no ****ing clue how a running man will fall when kicked/tripped or clattered. They should try to remember running as a kid and tripping over something, arms and legs all over the place :emoticon-0100-smile

In a split second if a person is coming at my shins with foot off the ground and studs showing, the first thing I'd do is pull both feet up off the ground. In that moment I'm not thinking about how much contact or what damage will be done. My instinct is that I'll probably still get hurt but at least I won't get a serious injury. If he sprawls after that, so be it.

Shall I tell you what saves Depay in all this. The defender's reaction afterwards, because I guarantee you if the defender hadn't looked guilty as sin and therefore the penalty being a fair decision, we'd have everyone claiming afterwards that it wasn't even a foul <ok>
