Jack Colback will consider his future at Sunderland if he cannot gain a regular start.

“It’s a make-or-break season for me,” he told The Journal.

“I ended the season playing and if I’m going to take a step back now, then it’s not going to be good enough.

“I definitely want to be involved in games. I’m 21 now – not 17 or 18, when being on the bench would be good experience for me.

“I need to be playing Premier League games now and that is what I intend to do. I just need to keep doing what I was doing before. Hopefully I’ll be in the first XI when the season starts now. The goal for me has to be to continue what I was doing at the end of last season. It’s nice to hear that the manager is giving you praise and I will continue to do what I’m doing, keep my head down and go on from there.”

I do hope Steve gives him more starts as the lad says its now or never, he is a very good footballer and needs games to improve.

I would hate to see him go, I was so impressed with him last season. I just hope he is not held back because we did not buy him if you know what I mean.

but his competition for a place is Myler Clatts, and going on last seasons performance i think he should start, till proved otherwise, get him in the first 11 Brucie.

Don't get to enough games to say how good the lad is, but everyone who does rates him so I hope he stays.

I like the kids attitude all round. He's obviously ballsy enough to just remind Bruce he isn't a push over but is happy to work hard to gain reward.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. Jack Colback is a little star in the waiting. I expect him to be an integral part of the next few seasons but he is going to have to keep up the consistency.

Competition for places is king in my book.

He fully deserves to start the season ahead of Catts, he can do everything and more than Catts, and was magnificent last 6 games of the season.

Agree 100%, I rate him more highly than Henderson. He is going to be a very good player and I want him to wear the red and white of Sunderland for a long time to come.

Who the hell at Sunderland talks to the Journal? They have probably made the whole bloody thing up to stir some ****...
I'm sure that the lad will feature quite a lot this season due to his undoubted ability and great attitude regardless of what the Journal comes out with.

Haway Jack man, settle down we love you here.

Just keep your feet on the ground lad, you'll get your chance.

    Don't go.

from what can be seen on tv, thought bhe was great at the back end of the season, depending on pre-season form he deserves a chance but compettition is king and he seems to be aware of that and from what he's said he's knuckling down.
Not just that he's a ranga that he reminds me of scholes, needs to add some goals and he'll be hard to shift
    hope he stays

No-one, this interview was given some days ago, and seems the Journal needed something to fill some space.

as these are jACKS OWN WORDS IF THEY WERE NOT TRUE HE COULD SUE THE PAPER FROM 1,000s, so he must have said it to make Bruce realise at 21 he wants to move on with his career and not be a bench warmer, based on what i have see he must start as his passing is more accurate than Clatters.

Read this midweek lads and thought Bruce should sit down with him and hammer out some details so he stays with us. I always thought the AOL was to make us a better team with good young players not bring them on to sell them on. Think most agree he has what it takes to be a very good player but, to hear him saying this saddens me a bit. Don't think even he expects first team starts all the time but, after the way he played the last few games of last season he should be given the chance to shine.

he reckons he'll be fully fit for the start of the season so here's hoping. A fully fit Meyler would be the 1st name on the teamsheet for me like
