Daniel Levy hosted a dinner in a top London restaurant on Thursday night for some of the great names in our club's past, such as Ossie Ardiles, Pat Jennings, Graham Roberts and Micky Hazard.
The idea was to outline the vision for our club as we move towards a new stadium, but the alleged highlight of the night was the reprise of Ossie's Dream, the 1981 FA Cup final song featuring Ossie famously mispronouncing the club's name.

    Mauricio Pochettino commented afterwards:

"I promised Daniel to sing if we won some title. We will sing together. Maybe after we have won something, we will decide what song.
In the stadium? Maybe, yes. Why not? In the stadium in front of our supporters."

"We talked about many things, there were different captains - Ledley King and Graham Roberts - who lifted a trophy for this club. I learned even more the passion for the club and how people identify with the badge. It was important this love for the club.

"Tottenham is a big club and to listen to the people who had experience of winning trophies with the club was very important. We hope that all together we can lift some trophies in the future. To feel the history is very important for us. Their experience can help us and help the club (to win) some trophies in the future. It's our dream, it's their dream." I am sure we will achieve something important, maybe in six months, one year or two years, I am sure the club will achieve a very important trophy."

"In football sometimes it is about business, it is about money, but for a lot of players it is about passion, heart, feeling. Harry Kane wants to stay with us and he has repeated that several times. There is trust and we have a very good relationship. So I repeat, we don't want to sell and he wants to stay with us. This is very good news for us, our supporters and the club because the project of the club, the potential is unbelievable."

I feel we have the right man in place. I feel that he understands our club and shares our desire to put right the wrong turn we took a little over 30 years ago. I feel that we are entering a new era that will see Keith Burkinshaw's comment that "there used to be a football club there" cease to have application any more. I feel that I am going to hear Mauricio and Daniel sing a song.

Spurs have been a nearly club for a long time now but at last it has dawned on the management that trying to compete with teams like United, City or even Bayern and Barca in the transfer market will place us firmly in the second best category. Investing heavily in the academy has it appears paid off quite smartly, resulting in our most promising squad for many years.
Pochettino looks increasingly like the man that Levy has been seeking for some years now. You can't help but be impressed with the way he has taken a talented group of young players and moulded them into a squad that with each passing game look more and more like serious challengers.
As Spurs fans we are used to disappointment, we almost expect it, but there is a growing feeling that we are on the verge of something really exciting. All we have to do is retain this present squad for a couple of seasons and at last the headline Super Spurs will make a re appearance.
Can we do it? I am beginning to think if anyone can Mauricio can!

It does appear that Levy has got it right, at last! There is cause for optimism.

I hope that he is true to his words, and that Levy will back him up to the hilt. We know that should we finish in a CL place that the Sharks will be circling come summer.

It won't just be for the obvious targets, Kane, Alli, Dier, but very possibly MP himself! Building a squad that can challenge for honours is one thing, and I do now believe that Pochettino is capable of that. But, it will need both Levy and Pochettino to stand firm, and for those players mentioned to be persuaded to stay and grow with us.

Unfortunately, as we know, if it comes down to purely financial reward we're not going to match what the current top clubs pay. Then the player may be hard to hold on to.

He'll mime and get others to do the singing, that's his usual practice. <laugh>

" I feel that he understands our club"

He didn't when he picked that team in the COC game against our biggest rivals, and effectively chucked the game.

Poch has started well for Spurs but far too soon to call him a success.

Keep hearing rumours about Man Utd (Internet rubbish probably) wanting Pochettino in the summer. Be interesting to see what he would do if a massive club like that came in for him and offered him a blank cheque book.

Yes, and I doubt he will ever pick Fazio and Wimmer as a central defensive partnership again. I'll lose significant respect for him if he does it tomorrow. No doubt both sides will rest some tomorrow but I've started to really trust him and believe we are entering a period of success over the next few seasons. We all need to pull together if we're going to get our club where it needs to be.

I am as optimistic now as I was in 1981. Again, we had a largely home grown squad - Hughton, Miller, Perryman, Hoddle, Brooke, Hazard, Falco; young players we'd signed from outside - Roberts, Galvin, Crooks; a top-notch 'keeper- Ray Clemence and an Argentinian influence at the heart of things.

Genuinely, I think he'd say no. He has the raw materials here that United currently don't have and he wants to build something. He is different this one. He doesn't have an agent and doesn't want one. As long as we don't sell Kane, Alli, etc and seek to go forward then I see him committed to us. He changed Hugo Lloris' intention to leave us in the summer of 2014 by his character and philosophy impressing Hugo that we had turned a corner at the club. See the teamwork our team display and the desire to work hard for each other. Our job is to believe and sing our hearts out.

No one will succeed at united for 4 or 5 yrs. By succeed I mean win the PL or CL. They need a new squad with the exception of Smalling, De Gea and Marcial (excuse spelling ) and there is a good chance they'll leave in the near future if successful teams come in for them...even if they I'm wrong any success a manager has will be complaired to Fergies teams so would never be good enough...so MP would be stupid to go there imo.

As for O.Spurcat's comment re the team picked to play Arsenal in the COC, I too was outraged at that but in fairness maybe he has learned a valuable lesson from that mistake...on that basis I am giving the benefit of the doubt

I'm sure that in The Mirror's case it's just join the dots up journalism. However, we should be aware that Pochettino is a young manager with a rapidly growing reputation. I've no doubt that bigger fish will come sniffing around before long.

I think the rumours about Poch to United are rubbish. He's fine at Spurs and is doing well. But the idea we need a new squad apart from the 3 players mentioned, is laughable tbh.

Is it? It certainly looks like a tired squad with little inspiration.

Was not trying to be a wum...but Rooney is not the player he was, your midfield is ponderous, your striking options are poor, your playing Ashley Young in defence and Schneiderlin looks lost.
4th is great for us but **** for you...you have been slow and ponderous all season and yesterday was a shameful performance.

United were dynamic and fantastic to watch but that is no longer true.

I think the major problem lies with manager. His players clearly don't subscribe to what he's asking them to do, and their performances reflect that.

To say that only three are any good is a bit harsh, IMO ( sorry rcl). I think Mata, Herrera, Darmian, to name three, are all terrific players.

I completely agree with that but who's fault is that? Bad workman blaming the tools in the case of Van Gaal? For example, Schneiderlin we know from Southampton is a dynamic box to box mf. With us, he looks stifled, being told to hold back and pass sideways. I bet he'd be playing a lot better under Poch or Wenger.

The problem for much of our squad is the the fact they're being boxed into rigid roles and not allowed to express themselves. I think we have a very good mix of experience with youth coming through. I still think we need another CB, RW and CF. But that's about it. The midfield looks ponderous bcos Van Gaal is a coward who's afraid to allow his players to express themselves. I watched Herrera at Bilbao for 2 seasons before he came to us and was genuinely excited by finding what I consider as a replacement for Scholes. I guarantee to you he will go on to be a great creative midfielder... but it will probably be at another club IF Van Gaal stays at ours. If Young is playing in defence it's bcos of injuries. Agree about Rooney, he's finished.

In short, Smalling, Darmian, Blind, Jones, Rojo and Shaw with another experienced CB is good enough. Herrera, Mata, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Carrick (coming to an end) and even Periera are fine for that midfield. Depay, Young, Lingard, Januzaj coming back and another quality RW is good enough out wide. Martial and one more quality CF to replace Rooney and another backup is all that's needed considering we play with 1 up front. Nowt wrong with the squad but definitely need strengthening in a couple of positions. Oh, and a manager who knows how to play them.

Would he turn down Man Utd to stay at Spurs if they came calling though?

Why not for all the reasons RCL pointed out. It's going very well for him at Spurs and he could really make a name for himself. Where as at United it's all downhill and if he did succeed it would be 'as expected' United is an older mans job.
I would honestly stay at Spurs he has plenty of time on his side anyway, all being well.
