Oh, a tick! I wondered how an estate could look like an involuntary twitch.

Serbian MOTS - last year I bought a 2010 Ford Fusion (old man's car I know). After me knocking Serbian cars for 10 years my wife told me to find the strictest MOT tester in town to do our car. I got some advice "he's a bastard they told me" I rolled up - new garage, rolling road, emissions tester, all the equipment you expect to see. I drove the car on to the rolling road. Press the brakes the mechanic said (in Serbian). I did. OK finished! He said (in Serbian) £6 pounds please.

At least I know the brakes work.

    Another true Serbian story:

Last week my golden retriever had some gastric problems, I took her to the local vets, he checked her over, gave her some stomach settling pills and some advice on what to feed her for the next few days, how much I say? Oh nothing he says. The stitching had come undone on my favourite rucksack. I took it to the local clothes mending shop. Come back tomorrow she said. I did. Job done. how much I say? Oh nothing she says. The buckle on my boots was missing the centre pin. I took it to the local cobbler. (yes they have them too). He found a pin from an old boot and fixed mine. how much I say? Oh nothing he says. Lastly my wife broke her glasses, one arm broken off, one loose. I took it to the local optician. She took 30 mins to fix them completely. how much I say? Oh nothing she says.

If you're waiting for a punch line - there isn't one!

Fabulous film, although I predict you'll end up wanting to punch Blake Fielder-Civil. And her dad.

Actually I think that because they have so little money they feel ashamed to ask money for a little job and when I gave them a couple of quid anyway you feel kind of guilty

You couldn't have been more correct. So, so sad.

If only she'd hooked up with Nick, her first manager, eh? He clearly loved her dearly.

They were made for each other, and her life could have been so different. As you say, so sad.

I met her dad once a while back. Not a terribly nice man I garnered from only one meeting. Very interested in promoting himself.

Haven't seen the film yet, but Asif Kapadia, the director, is brilliant and made one of my favourite docu-films ever in Senna.

Want to watch it with Fable though as an object lesson of the perils...

Do it. I was thinking of you and her when they showed the early clips of her and her first manager. All Amy needed to do was realise who were the people truly looking out for her.

Best bit about not606 Southampton are these ads that flash up advising that there`s loads of young Russian women desperate to meet me - I never knew I was so popular ! Fwoooaaar!

Yeah, she's got a smart head on her shoulders, and we have an amazing relationship, but like many creative types she also has a self-destructive streak a mile wide.

That's a great idea. Apart from all the bad stuff, the music is sublime. My favourite bit was Tony Bennett, after they recorded "Body and Soul", saying she was up there with Ella and Billie Holliday.

I obviously don't know Fable, but the early part of he film kept making me think of similarities. Fairly unique sound, seems committed to her "style", hugely talented.

Oh she was an astonishing, natural talent.

I'm curious to see what happens with Lorde as she sacked her manager (who let's face it was surely doing an incredible job!) quite recently. I don't think she has that streak to her, but it seemed a very odd thing to do.

The vultures are constantly circling with wild promises when there's talent about (they've already tried a few times with Fable). It's a tricky world for someone young and impressionable.

I thought that was amazing. That and her face when he came on to announce the Grammy she won. She absolutely idolised him. I wonder how her life could have turned out if she'd met him earlier and he'd been able to talk to her. His words were high praise indeed.
