And the same principle should apply to the Dartford Crossing - just imagine how many foreign registered vehicles are getting away without payment ( would you if you were a foreigner ? )

    Sour grapes ?
If you go onto the Shrewbury forum, ( Shrewsbury v Gillingham post ), greenhousmeadowman has accused our fans of lacking class at the play-off final. He/she (despite it saying 'man' ), gives no substance to this claim. Anyone got any ideas ?

I have speculated that our chant of " 7-0 and you f----d it up " may not have been appreciated. I pointed out that this happens - it is 'banter' - which we had to endure from fans of every team we had to play in the year following our play-off v Man City.

I wonder what example of 'class behaviour' caused the Shrewsbury fans to celebrate their equalizer on Saturday by singing " Where's your caravan gone." But then, I don't suppose they do irony in Shropshire.

I'll give this man the money out of my own pocket - on one condition

That I be allowed to perform restorative dentistry using the same meat cleaver ( with which he tried to decapitate his victim ) - through his rectum.

    Nurofen - who buys it?

I've always seen the simple choice in life 35p or several pounds for what is more or less the same product! I've always felt the only difference is the packaging and at last an investigation has revealed...well you know.

Just goes to show it really is easy to sell or brand anything to the clones on planet earth lol

Memory span of a goldfish !

Isn't it good to see that the Government are tackling 'real' crime !

Of course creating litter is anti social - (I don't like to see it ) - but you just know that the street warden will pick on soft victims - such as the little old lady dropping her Werther's sweet wrapper - because she has arthritis in her hands - and yet where are these wardens on a Friday or Saturday night ( or New Years Eve ) - when our streets become swamped with bottles, kebab cases, vomit and other human waste ? Answer = Hiding in their beds ! - but don't worry - they've achieved a quota that makes the Government look good.
I have heard of incidents where wardens have jumped 'all over' people who have unwittingly dropped items of litter - and not given them the opportunity to pick up the item of which they were unaware had been dropped - but slapping them with a fine. I'm not talking about your average yob - but the 'decent' people in our society - who are more likely to help our street wardens and Police, by reporting on real crime when it happens.( that co-operation will be lost - and a blind eye will be turned when the warden needs help ! )

It's amazing that you can receive instant penalties for minor ( perhaps accidental ) indiscretions - and yet, if you are a high profile member of society ( e.g. an MP ) who is accused of a string of historical deviant sex offences, you can 'escape' any judgement by suddenly remembering that you have Alzheimers.

On New Years Eve - in London alone, it was estimated that 85 tons of rubbish ( litter), was 'dropped' . I could place a 'mortgaged size' bet that not one person was given a fine by a street warden. ( mainly because they wouldn't dare 'work' at such optimum times ).

I wonder if local authorities will use CCTV to identify any offenders, and send them fines in the post ? This is not a wind-up by myself - but an idea to make real litter louts pay for the clean up process. Why should I have to pay more Council Tax - I put my rubbish in a bin !

I have always had a simplistic idea to solving the problem of litter, or at the least the one of cleaning it up. It might be a controversial idea but one that I would not be adverse to myself if in the receipt of 'benefits'

Look on any street, the days of the manual road sweeper have long gone unless you live in a High Street or City Center. Generally litter in any Street, Road, Drive, Avenue is left to rot unless the residents pick it up.

So why not issue those unemployed for say a period of more than 6 months and with no carer or child care responsibilities go out with a litter picker and bag in hand and pick it up if in receipt of benefits. Afterall nothing is free in life and at least it is something that would contribute to the local community.

Outcry I hear, but we see many day events where communities get together to complete such tasks for the benefit of the area, so why not make a constructive use of idol hands...or is that not politically correct.

Now the benefit system might argue then they can't actively seek work, erm....I'm sure a few hours a week after being unemployed for more than 6 months could be argued is more active than their current success rate of seeking employment. If anyone see's it as demeaning then it would indicate why they are so unsuccessful at obtaining success in the employment market.

In Gillingham I'm not sure if there enough people 'on benefits' to tackle all the rubbish - especially in the alleyways - and that's just on my route from car to ground.

I've found somebody more stupid than today's referee

I cannot believe that Miller can pose such questions. And just to appease this person, I have not stated their gender.

If any of you think there is substance to Miller's objection, then can I suggest you are perfectly qualified to officiate at the next Gills match

I actually agree with Maria Miller's comments and something I have raised as an issue before much closer to home on not606. In reference to the colour coding of Gillingham FC STH's.

Why?...well I'm quite into studying psychological behaviours, one small part of that is the unconscious and conscious bias and exploitation regarding socially constructed roles in life and how that is stereotyped at an early age or dare i even say birth. Be it by a colour, marketing, words, actions, emotion and many other forms of communication and thinking. Which in turn restricts freedom of behaviour and expression. Not to be confused with one's own personal gender identity.

I can respect your point of view. We had quite a lengthy thread on the subject of discrimination against STH. It was fairly evenly divided - depending on which 'camp' you was in - and I'm sure that it's not necessary to raise its' ugly head again.

My first thoughts - ( honestly ) - was to the subject of National security - which I think is fairly topical, as we can't go a day without hearing about terrorism - and with it very close to home !
I think that ( despite any moans to the contrary ), we live in a society in which we are free to go about as we please ( within reason ), and to say what we like ( again, within reason ).

Whilst I love all this freedom - it does have a downside - it doesn't make the job of our security 'forces' any easier - when information on official forms of identification cannot be specific enough to 'prove' the holder of that identification is the rightful carrier.

I honestly believe that if we 'degender' passports and driving licences, it will only inconvenience the greaer majority more than you might think. For example any time that you are stopped by the police - and asked to produce your driving licence - the fact that it states your gender, should help in identifying that YOU are the name on that licence. - and hopefully the incident will be over quickly and you can go on your way - without any long drawn out nonsense because your name is not gender specific. Of course there will be groups such as 'transgenders' who 'might' be inconvenienced - but we're talking about such a small group of people. I don't think that including a person's gender constitutes discrimination - it's one form of easy reference in the identification process - in the same same way that colour coded season tickets must be of help to turnstile operatives. - I'd be worried if I was allowed to use a pink season ticket book.

I have had three main jobs - each of them involved a need to screen my 'customers' in terms of security issues. Correct identification is always paramount. At times passports and driving licences were used as one, quick reference to establish identity - or rather - to ( usually ) eliminate 50% of potential imposters, and for the benefit of ascertaining that I was 'dealing' with a man or woman. There was never an issue of 'discrimination' of transgenders - just a slightly more detailed authentication of their identity - to ensure that their interests were protected- and not denied them.

ps - I think that if you live in countries like Saudia Arabia, you might have greater concerns than what gender is stated on your passport.

pps I think anyone could have done a better job than the referee today - regardless of their gender ( or any gender ! )

Why bother - surely you can just Google it ?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-35216318

What nonsense ! This is 2016, and yet children still can't do simple mental arithmetic. I seem to remember my primary school class having to 'sing' the times tables every day. And our teacher would randomly, and without warning, ask you " What is 7 x 9 " ( or other equations ), during the course of the day. You was in serious trouble if you dithered, let alone got it wrong. As for grammar - I think my old teachers would die with modern 'text speech.'

I'm afraid that standards have been allowed to drop. I refer to the basics - such as simple mental arithmetic, and a rudimentary grasp of the three 'Rs.' Having this ability was concerned normal 50 years ago - but then , we live in a lazy world - where the 'bar' has been lowered, and nobody seems to care - because they can all grunt in the same language, and have no need to count, because ( in terms of personal finance /debt ), they don't worry about figures.

One bit of defence for modern children - I could never understand why my school wouldn't allow the use of calculators. I always maintained that they would only work if you knew how to use them. Instead we were given slide rules and books of logarithms, ( all of which were more fiddly - but amounted to the same as calculators ) - and you could still 'present' your 'workings out' on paper.

You've not heard about my neighbour for a long time.

For several months she's been 'quiet'. Her health hasn't been great and she has left me alone ! We even managed a few amicable exchanges when we had an issue in the neighbourhood - needing me to discuss matters with her. This passed without any drama........

But she still thinks I'm trying to kill her....

In the summer she had a canopy erected above her front door. This very soon became 'ripped off' - by the wind, that 'caught it', just like a sail. I suspected that I might have been blamed - but was pleasantly surprised when it didn't happen............ anyway

She had the canopy replaced. I noticed that it was in exactly the same position as the original. I feared that the anchorage points for the bolts would have been weak - as the holes would have been expanded when the plugs were ripped out by the 'offending' high wind .

Yesterday I had need to again discuss the neighbourhood issues with my neighbour. As I approached her front door, I noticed that two of the four bolts holding up the canopy were very loose. I pointed this out to my neighbour. I even tried to 'screw' them back into place - but they just kept turning. I explained my theory about the wind weakening the anchorage point - but she wouldn't have any of it.
" It's not the wind - they've been loosened - and we know by who. " She then dragged up the damage caused to her fence panels by high winds in 2013. She again claimed that I had caused the damage.

Oh well -at least I know where I stand - that she hasn't mellowed - or received a Christmas present of common sense.

If we executed everyone in Britain for apostasy, there'd be virtually nobody left !
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-35260475

If the world is in any doubt that IS needs to be eradicated - the head-shaking, incredible details in the report surely must convince anyone who might support such fanatics.
We have nothing about which, in terms of 'human rights' we 'really' can complain in this country.

brb - I don't know about you - but when Gills lose from a 2 goal lead ( which is happening more often ! ) - it seems a much longer time to the next game than if we win a game - perhaps the secret of a long life is to lose every game.

    The price of Gills' promotion
Today may be 1st April -- but this is no joke ( although we are all being treated as fools - and it will last beyond midday ! ).

Over the recent times, 1st April has been the day when Budget measures 'kick in.' This year is no exception. Some of the rises aren't even subtle. My Council Tax ( like yours ), has gone up considerably. Nationally the rise is 3.1%. --- and THAT is on one of the highest bills you will pay this year. My local parish precept has gone up a staggering 34% ( I think the Monster Raving Loony party must have been voted into office ! ).

When did any of you last get a pay rise of 3.1% ?? My rise this year is £ 0 ( ZERO ). So along with all the other increases, how am I (we), supposed to pay the higher bills ? This is a serious question. I am just grateful that I have sufficient savings - but not everyone has that luxury - and why should I sacrifice any hard-earned nest egg - built up by my prudence - when, if I had been a spendthrift, I would get it 'for free' ?

And when (if) we get promoted in May, I am sure that Mr.Scally won't be raising our match day prices by 33% like he did last time. ( and, Yes, I will pay it.)

Meanwhile Gills STH are left crying into the imaginary beer - that they can't afford !
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-35950709

I promise you it was co-incidence that my previous post was [also] about the cost of football.

On Saturday, before the game, I popped into the ticket office to get additional tickets for some upcoming fixtures. Among these, I wanted to get extra tickets for the remaining home games. I had one ( £5er ) voucher left in one of my season ticket books. I had already expected to pay full adult prices for several tickets - but I was disappointed to see a sign in the ticket office ( that I have not seen advertised anywhere else ), that STH were not permitted to use these vouchers for the Coventry game - nor for the Millwall game.
In view of the number of tickets I was purchasing, the restriction didn't affect me - but - surely this is treating STH with yet more contempt. I'm not expecting that Mr.Scally gives a 'general' promotion of discounted tickets for ANY of our remaining games ( and these promotions have been conspicuous by their absence ) - but why give the fans an incentive to purchase a season ticket - then withdraw that incentive AFTER our Chairman has taken our money ? And if my memory serves me right, I thought the wording of the 'incentive' states that the vouchers can be used for ANY league game - therefore the withdrawal is contrary to the trades description rules.
I don't need anyone telling me that Mr.Scally was trying to maximise revenue from a game that many fans would only attend as their annual trip to Priestfield !!! - so how successful was that ? We achieved a crowd barely scraping 7000. There were over 4000 EMPTY seats ! - MORE than enough for ALL the STH being able to use TWO vouchers - and still not fill the ground - so - WHY penalise the STH (AGAIN) - AND
we'll struggle to get tickets for the play-offs - if we get there - and as for Wembley - WELL WELL WELL - all of a sudden we have 45000 'fans'

alwaysright - I wonder if this is another misinterpretation of the rules by the ticket office, I forget what it was last time when they applied something incorrectly. I saw something the other day about additional tickets, I will need to find it and read the finer print again.

My view is if you give STHolders vouchers, they can be used for any game, regardless of how successfully or unsuccessfully your season may be. Yes, I would accept not for play-offs but rules should not be additionally applied or acted upon for League games.
