One of the best, not the best IMO.That Roma was nowhere near the same Roma that beat us 2-1 in the 1st leg. From my era, which is the last 15 years or so, I think the Semifinal against Juve the 2nd leg in 99 was better. Also, the year after this game, when we won the CL in 2008, we played Roma again and that 2-0 away victory in the 1st leg was absoutely fantastic. Another of my favourite games is the CLgame directly after the one you posted, the semi final 1st leg against AC Milan. We won that 3-2, Kaka was brilliant (although we didn't really help ourselves defending against him!), Scholes's assist for Rooney's first was simply out of this world, how many footballers EVER would have seen that through (or should I say, over) ball! Not to mention the class of Rooney's late winner. Shame about the 2nd leg however! The Schalke first leg is another modern great CL game. Considering that the attack that Schalke had and that they thoroughly demolished the reigning CL winners in the previous round, it should have been a tight game, it was anything but. Schalke probably had the better of the initial stages but we wrestled controlled of the midfield and should have scored 4, if not more goals. It was a brilliant allround performance.
The 3-1 vs Arsenal at the Emirates in 2009 was also a quality performance, and in their own backyard as well. I remember watching it in a bar and being a few minutes late - I entered just in time to see Park score, and just after I managed to find a seat Ronaldo banged in that 40 yarder Admittedly Arsenal probably gave up a little after that, but even so it was like Evra said - men against boys.
wouldnt say the bayern game was best performance, but it was the most dramatic. I couldnt honestly tell you what was, im sure in the 50's and 60's we had a few
I do always think of the Utd thumping of Roma at OT. Why? Simply our finishing that night was superb.
