Moyes was/is a good manager but looking back I am sure he would admit to crucial errors. I think the worst (but understandable) one was to sack key and essential backroom staff like Meulensteen and replace them with his own inexperienced (in United methods) ones who included Phil Neville !!. This removed the only link with the old regime and introduced a new set of coaches and new coaching and training methods etc. Absolute madness. I said it at the time even before the slide but the man wanted to show that he was his own man and had the power.

He also would admit saying crass things like "we need to emulate City". You might privately think that but to say it to the media? He also hinted if not admitted it openly that the job was too big for him.

I don't think he is a bad manager but even he would realise that this job was a once in a lifetime opportunity and unless he proved himself a massive success at a big club I can't see him having a sniff of the United job ever again.

I know what you mean, he didn't really give the impression that he was up to the task.
I remember a particular press conference that riled people, just before you played Liverpool, and he basically said words to the effect of "We are the underdogs in this tie now", basically saying "Liverpool are better than us", I remember thinking <doh> ffs man, way to get the United fans on your side <laugh>

That is why United needs a manager with great self confidence. Same as the players. many of them have visibly shrunk playing at OT.

In fairness to him though, that season Liverpool finished 2nd and United 7th, so he had a point, but still, its not the **** United fans want to hear <laugh>

The bit you miss is that we were at home!

That very quote was when I personally gave up on him. It was pretty clear that the job was beyond him in saying that.

Funny really, van Gaal gets away with equally ludicrous statements. Bournemouth aren't our sworn enemies though so he's got away with.

Still, we've taken on board his words and our expectations have very definitely been lowered since.
We no longer expect to win and we no longer expect any entertainment.

Entertainment? who was it who said that if that's what you want you need to go to the theatre <whistle>

But on the other hand you do not pay high ticket prices to be tortured ...

The truth is, if it stops being entertaining people will stop going. It might take some time, and the chances of it being allowed to continue for very much longer if we win nothing are slim to zero, but that's the truth.

The club, everyone, should ignore the paying public at their peril.
Those who watch Internet streams are completely irrelevant, sorry to point that out. They contribute the grand sum of **** all.

Fully with you here. That is why the Adidas comment will have hit the GGs and the executive hard. If people stopped wanting to watch United they will also want to stop buying shirts, the value of broadcasting, promotions will decrease etc.

The ghost of Ferguson's success will haunt your club like Revie's did at Leeds

And it took 5 years and a previously unheard of investment of foreign money to do it, trouble or you is now every club and it's dog have that foreign money. LVG blew your wad on fairly mediocre midfielders, none of whom have much flair or pace, and your cheque book bully days are over.

People are yet to explain why people think Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool can win thing with any top manager yet Man United are only able to do it with SAF

It's failed logic that is largely driven by the believe that Man United would become the next Liverpool. However, we are in a different era. Thus, it is daft to assume that Liverpool's fate is a given at United.

Liverpool failed because they put in a manager who looked good in a weak league who then spent a load of money on mediocre players.

As to Revie, he was the first to come to mind, I suppose I should've used Busby, whose success haunted Man Utd for over a generation

The first post I read of yours on here was saying that Adrian was a better keeper than de Gea, that told me all I need to know about your football knowledge.
You haven't got any worse since, but you certainly haven't got any better either. Go try the Liverpool or Chelsea boards for a while and come back when you've grown up a bit.

(stay away from the Arsenal board they will ban you, they don't suffer fools easily).
