    This is good news.

    Another experienced player returning.

This will allow Nedum Onuoha to play in the position in which he is most composed.

    No, we won't.

If we are less competitive than we were standing around looking at each other v Huddersfield, I'll be both surprised and a trifle disappointed.

I would laugh if we won it though! <laugh>

In fact, in the words or Kevin Keegan 'I would love it, love it!'

James Perch started off slow but he came good and had some great performances at times. Sadly, he's quite old. Both our full backs are getting on and one of them is on loan. We're definitely consolidating and thinking about the future this season.

Good news of course. Who in the F wants our players injured?

I agree wholeheartedly. As I opined in an earlier thread, as supporters we need to get this bile off our chests then get fully behind the players, manager and board. Why else would we want to do anything other?

I think everyone, at the matches at least, is very willing to get behind the players when they put a shift in. After the years of **** served up people are a bit quick to get on the backs of certain players but there have always been boo boys at any club.

If a reasonably young team was picked which didn't include Fer, I guarantee the crowd would react positively even if the results weren't perfect straight away.

Watford_R - I agree to a certain extent. My concern is that footballers, like us all, thrive on confidence and fade away on shame or humiliation.

As supporters, we can very quickly take them to that latter position.

I recall a match vs Doncaster a couple of seasons ago where we were struggling to take hold, but clearly had the better skill and team play.

We couldn't unlock their defence and you could see Doncaster getting more and confident as the game progressed.

This progressed to over confidence and I could see that their left back - defending the loft - was the weak link. He made a couple of basic errors and in my seat close to the touch line I bellowed out 'they're nervous, nervous - there for the taking'.

I visibly saw our right sided player lift his game and the fellow at left back for Doncaster froze and faded.

We won! And both goals came from that right channel.

Now I'm not saving that it was a huge game changer. But it was without doubt the closest example I can give to explain the need to hold the confidences of our players.

If we think they're awful and tell them so, then we might just get what we wished for!

I'd argue if they are that thrown off their game by a few moans when they lose the ball or play a **** pass they're lacking the mental strength to be elite sportsmen.

The problem really is that the groans should be directed at Fernandes and Ferdinand but there's no way for the bloke on the street to do that so the players will get it. Football has always been an outlet for emotions.

Watford_R I accept your point about elite athletes and the need for a robust armour. But nonetheless the effect is there for all to see. They're still young fragile humans as we all are!

Not a season goes by without a player trotting out the cliche of the influence of the 12th player - their home support - usually in positive terms. But it's not a one way valve.

A few season ago a fellow sitting close to me was digging out young Tom Carroll over anything that was less than Messi-like in his positional play, ball control, distribution, etc.

At one point he was under pressure, worked some space and played a delicious ball to switch the play that was ever so slightly under hit and failed to make his team mate by a yard or so.

Well this fellow went into one of his usual over reactions - effectively declaring a fatwa on young Tom Carroll. My response - equal in vitriol - though aimed at said fellow 'he's got to try these things'.

I was expecting this mug to call me out - but interestingly my volley back was met with a universal purr of approval from all around. As if to vindicate the point. Needless to say Mr Angry was less critical with his scrutiny thereafter.

I think with some players it goes too far, particularly young players or those new to a league who need more patience. Carroll got terrible abuse essentially for trying to play decent football while Jenas sauntered around 10 yards from the ball. Polter seems to get crucified even when he contributes positively and there are plenty of other examples.

But experienced players woefully underperforming should be told, IMO.

Sounds like there's not much time to tell them if they're only popping in for training for an hour!!!!
