66 years old today and the most exciting centre forward I've seen ever at Newcastle. For those not old enough to have seen the man at his best enjoy http://newcastletoons.com/2016/01/07/five-of-malcom-supermac-macdonalds-best-goals/2/ http://newcastletoons.com/2016/01/07/five-of-malcom-supermac-macdonalds-best-goals/3/ http://newcastletoons.com/2016/01/07/five-of-malcom-supermac-macdonalds-best-goals/4/ http://newcastletoons.com/2016/01/07/five-of-malcom-supermac-macdonalds-best-goals/5/ http://newcastletoons.com/2016/01/07/five-of-malcom-supermac-macdonalds-best-goals/6/ Watching the Burnley game it took me back to enjoy the noise a crowd can make especially as the noise was just about solely from the Toon Army.
Well, the second goal at Burnley makes the hairs stand up even after all these years.....Moncur, Tudor, Hibitt, Supermac...goal. It took less than ten seconds for the ball to travel from our box to their net. Five touches. Glorious. And the crowd in the Kop behind the goal, marvellous.
......forward 40 years and we have Papisse Cisse playing in that shirt [sometimes.] Happy Birthday Supermac. I'm not old enough to remember you playing for us, but from the countless highlights I have seen over the years you were one of the greatest.
Was in the Kop end and it was one of the best games from a being there perspective I've ever been too. It almost matches the "Barcelona" game at St James'. Remember buying a flag on a stick outside the ground and then less than 5 yards on a Policeman took the stick and left me with the flag. He then put the stick in a bin attached to a lamp post along with about 50+ other sticks.
My first game seeing him was the 74 quarter final against Forest. 3-1 down and down to 10 men and we won with a last minute goal from Moncur. That was the one where we invaded the pitch, attacked the Forest players and stopped the game. The ref decided the Forest players were ok and decided to carry on, thinking we would be beat. Then we went and won. Think we almost got kicked out the cup. I was only 6 but for that to be your first ever footy match and see all that happen,, wow..I still remember the noise from the Leazes when Moncur scored. Obviously I ran on the pitch like all the rest of the young-uns. Happy Days
Best I've seen, bar none. As much I blame Supermac for me falling in love with NUFC and inflicting the curse that's haunted me for most of my life, I was blessed to see him play. It's a shame that the goal many reckon to be his best against Leicester in 1975 isn't on video.
I saw him play as well, wasn't at the 74 semi-final but went to Hillsborough twice in the 80s'. By that time the roof was on the Spion Kop so it kind of spoilt the spectacle of so many fans standing in one end celebrating.
South Yorkshire police Aye, I remember they poured our beer down the drain in 1987 when I was there. I saw Supermac in the post office in Byker a few years ago. I looked at him and said, "Top man". He smiled. I also saw Nobby Solano on Chilli Road. I asked him, "donde esta la trumpeta?" Nobby laughed.
The mad thing about Hibbitt's "killer pass" to Supermac at Hillsborough is that it looks as though he shinned it!
One of my favourite times ever as a Newcastle fan involved Terry Hibbitt in the late 80's. When all the old posers and noisy buggers went in the Milburn stand seats, Hibbitt was spotted about 20 seats away at half time. I started singing "Terry Hibbitt on the wing", everyone joined in. After a verse he stood up dancing on his seat, *** in mouth. No sooner had it finished, it started up again, Hibbitt dancing on his seat, big beaming smile on his face. He bloody loved it!
Same for me. Though Supermac also taught me early on what it would be like following Newcastle - courtesy of Gordon Lee selling him to Arsenal
Imagine. A striker. In black and white too... He too was the main culprit for my emotional tie with this festering club. Great, great striker.
