Sadly can't argue with that, I don't think Tufty helps either, I suppose we will have to judge his performance after a season in the Championship.
McClaren should never have got the job. We can thank Graham Carr for that. We could have had a new start and brought in someone decent like De Boer. But no. The 'football' board decided to appoint the dinosaur who has been sacked from pretty much every job he's ever had.
I know. The guy's like 56 and if he wins a cup or finishes 8th we could be stuck with him til he's sixty fecking four. Every day I ask myself, how can someone have the smarts to make enough money to buy a Premier League club, yet be so utterly fecking thick as to make decisions like this.
It baffles me how Ashley can keep making these atrocious decisions. He passed responsibility for appointing the new manager over to the football board [a smokescreen since he has final say no doubt.] McClaren was sacked by Derby County after failing to get them into the play-offs. This despite having a fairly decent budget and good group of players. He turned us down twice ffs. He only joined us because of his sacking. He knew that he would struggle to get another job in this country and then of course the mugs at NUFC appoint him. Nothing surprises me. I mean, any club that can appoint someone like Joe Kinnear as manager and Director of Football is quite frankly laughable. Ashley may be this rich and successful businessman, but as a football club owner he has a level of judgement akin to Krusty the Clown. McClaren is going to take us down. We aren't dumb enough to think otherwise. We are a horrible team to watch most of the time. We aren't unlucky. We are just ****.
I'd like to have two realities available, just so we can watch what would happen if we were to go down, but then revert back to the reality where we stay up. Ashley may be thick as clarts and surrounded by lying sycophants, but nothing bar nothing could possibly save this "football board" if we were to get relegated? I'd love to know what is said by Charnley when Ashley asks what the feck is going on. I mean, he gives out a managerial contract with a bonus of a five year extension for either winning a cup, or finishing top 8. One must then assume McClarts wants to win a trophy. We then lose to Sheff Wed, atrociously, at home. We're probably getting relegated. At what point does the thick lump that calls itself owner think "hmm, something isn't quite right". Or is he blinded by the solitary fifth place so absolutely that he believes everyone and everything else is wrong, he's GOT to be right and if you stick at it long enough it will work. It's almost as if, in brushing up on football ahead of owning a club, he read a pamphlet written by someone like Stan Collymore - "Patience is key, consistency is what wins trophies". Subsequently he thought - right, if any manager I employ finishes top 8, they must be brilliant therefore 8 year contracts are the prize. And I do not, under any circumstances, sack people. The rest of it - the right operational structure, serious experience in key positions, an achievable plan running parallel to the dreams of the region, investment in youth, a recruitment strategy based on a number of factors and NOT just resale - were left behind. It's a staggering sequence of ineptitude from a man worth more than some countries.
I personally think that Ashley is thick as pig ****. His interview after the West Ham game was the rambling of someone that doesn't have a clue. He's obviously a very astute businessman when it comes to sporting goods. But he is ultimately nothing more than a successful shopkeeper and I wouldn't be surprised if it's people around him that have helped him become as successful as he has. In terms of Newcastle United, it is simply astonishing that we pursue the policies that we do. You cannot hope to survive at the very top of English football with the level of investment that we have put in over the last 5 years. We are paying the price for the complete ineptness of both Ashley and those that he employs. Lee Charnley is quite frankly an embarrassment. He was a tea boy and secretary who has been given the top job based on what? Why is this man even involved in footballing decisions? Graham Carr - The messiah. What exactly has this person achieved in football? He got Northampton Town promoted in the 1980's and that is it. He was sacked by non-league clubs for crying out loud. He has contacts in the game. Big ****ing deal. The players that he 'buys' are largely cheap, foreign rubbish that no other club in this country would touch. Steve McClaren. Let's get one thing straight. I have no doubt that he is probably a fantastic 'coach.' Sir Alex, Redknapp and numerous players have nothing but praise for McClaren's coaching abilities. A good coach does not make a good manager however. Brian Kidd anyone? How this idiot was appointed as manager of our club is still a mystery. A failed Championship manager and nothing else. Appointed by the Chuckle Brothers, authorised by Ashley. These decisions are going to cost us dearly this season. It has finally caught up. The gambles, the **** appointments, the terrible signings. An unholy trinity that is leaving us teetering on the brink. When we go down [and we will], we will stay down. There will not be a repeat of the previous relegation and promotion. This club is finished. There is no character or resolve to bring it back up immediately. Absolutely disgusting.
But, also, I agree haha! If football was that complicated, the idiots who run it couldn't be successful. I mean, Redknapp? Chris Kamara? Ron Atkinson? The list of bumbling morons who have fell into fortunes via the ever-giving pot of gold that is football is endless. How Ashley can FAIL in this level of company is beyond astonishing. He's not even trying to fail, he's trying to prove everyone wrong on the basis that football is simplistic and idiotic. He's trying to say that a Charnley can run a club, a McClaren is no worse than a Mourinho, that as long as you're breaking even you're successful, but is not only pi$$ing his money up the wall on ignorant and arrogant decisions, he's also disillusioning his entire customer base!! If it wasn't for the fact we've offered a cheap billboard for SD, it would be an unmitigated disaster. As it stands, he probably thinks he's done rather well.
