With you, Godders....love just doing what I like. However, might be nice to start again, knowing what I know now. My advice....sufficient is enough and do something you enjoy.

    Wise words.

Mind you, what you're meant to is reach for the stars and think yourself some kind of failure if you can't or don't feel that inclined. Consequently, the world consists of failures and psychiatrists make an absolute fortune. What they perhaps ought to do is sell bottles of Contentment. And stack them right next to the Confidence bottles. That'll cure the western world of most of its ills.

Agree with the second part, but not the sufficient part.

So Greg Dyke reckons `we`ll all shoot ourselves` if England don`t get through the group stage. Not sure who means by `we`, but I`ve yet to hear that buffoon say anything remotely sensible. How did such a numpty get that job ?

I hope I never do. Just brought up to do my best.

I can't stand the other attitude to be honest. People will say "you won't get any more thanks or pay," but I don't take to that. If a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing well (or to the best of your ability)

Just spent an hour and forty five minutes chatting on the phone with Ian Astbury from The Cult. He's an incredibly inspiring, intelligent and wise man. I was meant to be interviewing him for an article in a French magazine, but it feels like I've just undergone an amazing therapy session.

He's had SUCH a hard ride from the British press (you should hear some of the things they've said about him) but he really is a genuine, earnest and honest man not afraid to expose vulnerability.

It's only very infrequently in life you meet or speak to people that really inspire you. I feel very inspired this evening after that.

That's not what 'sufficient ' is about. You've misunderstood.

By keeping a little back for yourself, you might actually be more productive. No sense driving with the choke out.

I wasn't referring to effort put in, but rather to chasing the money. Having sufficient for your needs is good enough....some people just want more and more. However, if also makes sense when talking of effort. Perfection at every step of a process may be required in some areas, for example surgery and engineering, but doesn't apply to every job. Sometimes getting to the end without having a breakdown should be the target. Judging the difference is the skill.

Nice one, Fran. My take on it, exactly. I've always tried to do 100% at everything I do, but in terms of money, I've been lucky, but feel that the next few years (now I've retired) will be one of just enjoying what I can with what I have. I'd rather have a close family and good friends than a pot of money and be alone.

The saying goes look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.........(sorry if this has been quoted before) In truth I have never worried about money. As long as I can remember I have been lucky enough to be able to work for all the things and extras We as a family needed. Having a partner who is like minded helps too.
My work ethic has always been if a job needs doing then do it well and properly and or to the best of your ability. Also to be prepared to learn as you go and never assume that all is consistent.

What a virtuous hard working bunch of boring gits on here. Whatever happened to ducking and diving, cutting corners and staying one step ahead of the game?
