Lots of hamstrings going between the Merseyside clubs in these games. What's that about? Fixture congestion, maybe? Has it been that bad?
Clever tactical switch from Martinez. He's obviously alarmed at the deluge of goals they've conceded this year, so he now tells them to sit back and patiently soak up pressure at the beginning of the game, slowly coming out of the shell as they start seeing more of the ball. They did it against us and again today and it certainly seems to have made them much stronger at the back.
but for us being incredibly unlucky with the woodwork that tactic would have failed with us on Sunday so I am not too sure it's that good a plan in all honesty
True, but we certainly didn't spend much time whatsoever in their box and Howard wasn't particularly busy despite all of our pressure. It was a marked contrast to their defeat to Stoke and if they carry on like this they could put a really good run together, especially once Jagielka is back.
Perennial Spurs problem, for all the possession and territory we gain in many games, we don't create enough scoring opportunities. TBF, once Everton scored they stuck 9-10 behind the ball and we're happy to play in their own half. Two banks of four with little or no space between them is hard to find a way through. We really needed to get around them on the flanks, but we sold Lennon.....!
Similar has been said about Moyes not bothering to learn Spanish or Basque when he was at Sociedad. There's one story doing the rounds that he asked his players why the locals kept referring to him as "Sweaty David" - only to be told they were actually saying "Suerto David", which is Spanish for "Good luck David"
I also like Neville these days and wish him well, but I absolutely can’t imagine taking a job managing when I don’t know the language that will be spoken in the locker room. It’s hard enough to communicate when you share a common language, in my experience. I almost think if he does well, credit should go to his interpreter, dumb luck, or some combination of the two. On the other hand, I could see a manager who I can’t understand at all but who gestures amusingly and seems very supportive (as he never criticizes me, as far as I can tell) getting good performances out of me. I’m amazed more people don’t find significant others who can’t understand a word they say. What could they argue about?
When you become jealous of others having a good time try combing your side parting to the other side of normal Variety is the spice of life!
Since Klopp arrive at Anfield, has every Pool game been televised ? It seems like every time I turn my TV on, Liverpool are being shown.
How is that different from when Rodgers was in charge? Or...well, take your pick of any other manager they've had this century.
I can understand TV companies picking Liverpool games to televise. It probably makes financial sense. I can't understand why so many of the pundits are either ex-players of theirs or claim some other affiliation. Everton v Spurs at Goodison. Who's in the studio? Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness. Ok, one was at Spurs as a youth player and the other scored some goals for us and supported Everton, but still. Any chance of having one from each of the teams that were actually playing, rather than two from one that isn't?
Good to see Stevie P looking so well in the media this week. My all-time top Spurs player. His first game was also mine. A true legend.
Villa have been appalling this season, but fair play to Micah Richards for actually speaking to the fans after their latest poor result: Would be very easy to slink off down the tunnel and run off to hide somewhere, as many players have done.
Blew my cupset double at the first hurdle. Honestly had Exeter down as favourites with home advantage on a pitch they know and with Liverpool hamstrung by injuries and then to top it all off, Bogdan starting. Great atmosphere, though and I'm sure they'll be more than pleased with earning a replay. Blades hanging on so far. United playing like they want a replay too.
67 minutes for either side to register a shot on target and it's Utd who manage it. Sheffield United...
This reminds me of the time last season where Holtby got into a full-on debate with a section of Hamburg fans after a match.
