Just seen that apparently we are valuing Tiote at £8m. I may get short down here but I think, in the current market he is worth more than this. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/01/0...ited-value-in-demand-midfielder-cheick-tiote/ Newcastle United’s Cheick Tiote has been linked away from the club. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan are interesting in signing Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote during the January transfer window. The Ivory Coast international has struggled for game-time at Newcastle, succumbing to a succession of injuries and losing his spot to fellow holding midfielder Vurnon Anita. Tiote has started just six Premier League games this season, and his situation at St. James’ Park has led to plenty of speculation regarding his future at the club. As stated by the Daily Mail, Beijing Guoan have emerged as a surprise contender for his signature with Newcastle valuing him at around £8 million. “Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is wanted by Chinese side Beijing Guoan. Newcastle value him at around £8m. Guoan are looking to pay less on the fee but will offer a salary of around £3.5m a year after tax - around £67,000 a week,” the report states. Newcastle currently find themselves in a precarious positon in the Premier League table, occupying 18th position and two points short of Swansea City and safety. Steve McClaren’s side have a big task on their hands in their bid to avoid the drop, and unless they bring in a new central midfielder the idea of allowing Tiote to leave now is somewhat nonsensical.
8m? I think we'd be taking someones eyes out based on his level of performance in recent seasons. I honestly think we'd be lucky to get our money back. He's been terrible, injury prone and disruptive by all accounts.
Have to agree that anywhere near 8 million for him would be a snatch their arm off moment.. Unless he stays fit and gets back to some kind of form, we should take the money and move on.
I thought six mill but i think nobody will tek the risk now. 60k wages and a habdful of average appearances in last two years
He might be worth that amount, but I'd not let him go for that amount. I'd only sell for 12m or more, only if we have a replacement in line.
I'd question the sanity of anyone willing to pay anything near that amount. Any such bid would obviously be a p*** take.
I think he is a sub £5million player at best. And I don't think another PL side would want him. His best days are behind him imho. One of the ones that needs to be heading to the exit door for me.
He's only worth 1/2 m at most, one time looked like Essien replacement but not now. ps any chance of anyone making a thread with some sense fs Tiote 8m jaysus
I thought he looked like his old self against Arsenal, at least in the first half he was dominating the game. He's not the youngest anymore and was out more or less a year with niggling injuries, then thrown in the deep end because our squad size is a joke. Maybe Tiote is back? In which case, 8 mio is probably less than he's worth, at his best I'd say he's worth 10-11 mio. But if this was a one off, yes then 8 is more than the 3-4 mio hes been worth over the last 18 months. Point is, whoever runs our club thinks all you need to run a premier league team is 12-13 first team players and then rest can be youth. It's a joke., If you compare our squads to say Swanseas or Southhamptons...they have 2 good players for every attacking position and adequate cover in defence. We have neither. What we have is 16 players which could be in a first team, 7 off-form, off-fitness, disillusioned guys past it who are disinterested and from those 23 players we have 10 injured or walking wounded at any given time.
This is what I'm getting at. It's the cost of a replacement for me. I think his body language suggests he's wanting away to be honest.
Where is Marveaux btw? Is he injured? How come he doesn't feature at all. We hardly have 3 subs fit to play
