The Miiror's usual agenda of trying to de-stabalising things to creat a bit of unrest and uncertainty amonngst the fans, if not the team. Add it to the catalogue of crap.

As long as he feels as though he is number 1 he's ok. When at Pompey he upset a lot of players he felt were inferior to him (which they probably were for the most part), eg; in the player's bar only those he saw fit were allowed to sit at his table.

David Nugent proved to Jermaine he was the better fighter though, on the day Defoe left Pompey, by putting Jermaine square on his arse with an almighty punch down town.

Thanks, Pompey is a small city and you can quite often see the players on a night out, even in the PL days. Some of them made the mistake of thinking they were immune to any sort of trouble, because they put on the blue shirt. On a night out years ago Gerry Creaney was on the end of a proper toeing after upsetting some of the 6:57 looneys in their local drinking establishment, Mark Chamberlain was with him at the time and he didn't receive a punch as he was a bonafide PFC legend, more amazing as most of that lot are hard core BNP, weird logic eh?

The side you didn't mess with was Bally's from the late eighties, no-one gave those guys any trouble, they'd have kicked the **** out of you and enjoyed doing it.

Kevin Ball is a legend to me mate but John Kay taught him how to be a hard **** when Bally came north.
For some reason Bally fell in love with us. Bizarre.

I meant Bally the manager, but I can imagine Kev as well could tell some tales about his time down here.

Have to say that I have always thought this about Defoe - the first goal on Saturday was quite telling - he looked disappointed immediately after we scored.- the ball was travelling towards him and hit the defender! On the second and third goals (his 2) the whole team celebrated!

It worries me a bit but, as long as he's scoring, no issues!! He should've put Danny Graham in on one of the chances he had - (I know it's Danny Graham!) - but Graham was far better placed to score and had a lot less to do. But I always said about Wickham that I didn;t mind a striker being greedy as it's what you expect from a goalscorer!

He probably didn`t because it was Danny Graham. That`s reason enough for me.

Didn`t Graham bollix up an easy chance in front of goal shortly before that? Or was it shortly after?

I like the idea, but would Swansea sell to us, I doubt it, for the same reason we must not sell JD to any of our rivals, there is just too much at stake this window.

Nah mate. He didn't because he's a striker! I still think Defoe is a "me first" player to be honest but, while he's scoring, that's no issue

Shelvey is not as good as Cattermole and plays the exact position he does! Miles behind mvila as well! Gomis looked good when he joined but looks dog **** now!

Jermain Defoe has invited Sam Allardyce to burden him with the pressure of keeping Sunderland in the Premier League.

The 33-year-old – scorer of a match-winning double against Aston Villa on Saturday – has started only half of Allardyce’s 12 games in charge.

But Defoe has sent a clear message to his manager – only teams with goalscorers like him avoid relegation.

‘If you want to win the league, finish in the top four or stay up, you have to score goals,’ declared the striker, who is the third-highest English scorer in the top flight behind Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane.

Sam Allardyce has only played Defoe in half of the games he has been in charge, but that will surely change

    SUPER STAT
Villa’s Carles Gil scored the 500th goal of the Premier League season.

‘I am a goalscorer. I have to score the goals to help this team survive. I have always had that pressure on me. We are judged on scoring goals - we carry the main burden. ‘But as a goalscorer that is fine by me. I’d love a run in the team. I feel fit and really sharp. I always say that if I get chances around the box I believe I will score a high percentage of them. ‘You have got to be confident and I am. It is important to take those chances in such a difficult league. You have got to make those chances count and I think I can. If I do that, the manager will keep me in the team.’ Defoe, with nine goals in all competitions this season, is undoubtedly Sunderland’s best hope of beating the drop.

Against Villa he proved the difference between the relegation rivals, stealing a late double to ensure an invaluable 3-1 victory to move his side to within four points of safety.

It is the reason why Bournemouth are set to revive their interest in the marksman, who has long since been frustrated at not being guaranteed a starting jersey.

But Allardyce said: ‘He can change everything by doing what he did (on Saturday) more often, can’t he? ‘Why has everybody constantly said he can’t play up front on his own? I’ve listened to everybody else say that, but I’ve decided to go with it – and it’s paid off. ‘Maybe everybody has to realise that he’s the end product, not there to be part of the build-up or to be a hold-up player like Steven Fletcher, but to put the ball in the back of the net. ‘So we have to change our style, we have to play better and cleverer balls for Jermain to get in goalscoring positions. If we do that, he’ll score goal and win us games.’ Defoe and Allardyce, it seems, are beginning to realise their value to each other.

    Rethink on the Swansea Duo.
Shelvey is an attacking midfield player, I do not see him replacing LC/ YmV but playing in front of them in the AJ/OT role, he is more direct and scores more goals than anyone mentioned here, he would be an addition rather than a direct replacement,
I am not sure BJ would be good enough either, could turn out another DG tbh.

Shelvey... that's a great shout, he'd have a much bigger impact than Johnson <ok>

That was ridiculous, he just had to blast it in from about 8 yards. Unfortunately he mis-hit the ball and it didn't even reach the goal line <doh>

The only worry is his reputation, no problems about his talent though
