Although signing a striker is semi important to me , more important is we keep the players we need to keep and get rid of the players we need to , be it for money we need and because they are influencing our game negativily.
I hope I'm wrong but I really can't see us getting a top quality striker in this window. If Gomis is off (please ) then I'd rather not sign a replacement for the sake of it either. It's got to be a good signing. If Jonjo's off as well then maybe we could afford a decent one. Fingers crossed.
If we get nobody , and I'm hoping that's the case if we are preparing to spend money foolishly , my simple fix is this .Gomis doesn't start a game as well as he subs these days . Eder needs to start games , his 2nd start against Liverpool till he got injured was pretty good I thought . Eder starts most games from here , if we don't get someone in , Gomis comes in later in the game .
We are the second lowest scorers in the PL, if anything is going to send us down then it will be our lack of goals. If we don't bring in a striker who can take a half chance and be busy in an around the box then I fear for our PL future. But as you say we do tend to go for cheap, so it will either be another Vasquez or Sheckter, rather someone who can actually score a few goals.
Dunno if anyone has already mentioned but there are reports that we're in for Charlie Austin. Dunno if he's a player that will suit our play but defineatly an improvement on gomis
No Manager = Relegation a probable outcome. No striker = definite Relegation Lets not beat around the bush here, We have been living in hope for most of the season and look where we are. How do anyone expect us to all of a sudden score goals with any of our strikers if they could not do it during half the season gone. I'm sorry we need a decent manager and striker asap and i don't mean one of jinx's flops ether....
I think Curtis and Eder need to be given a few more games before we start pouring money into something that might turn out worse and carry the extra cost down with us Some have been saying Curtis can't do the job before his first game in charge and we need to give our 5 million pound forward an actual chance to show why we bought him before we ditch him . The next few home games will paint a better picture for both their futures at the club in the present positions . New managers and new strikers need time to get up to speed whereas these two know the scoop on how things tick at the club ....couple more games of the same for me .
But we have gone past the half way point roof and to me if any of them were going to shine it would have happened by now as they have all had their chance. There are small gaps appearing above us now and we cant let that grow trying to persevere with the flops we know are rubbish and must take advantage of this window and at least try and fix it, Once the window closes then we have no choice in the matter. I don't care if we have to pay a couple of million to a club just for a loanee for the remaining of the season if it can improve our position....If it don't then at least we would have tried. We cant do nothing...
I'm all for signing a reasonable striker at a reasonable price or loan a very good one but practicality has been thrown out the window of late . All I'm saying is let's not walk past Eder to quickly at the same time .To me Eder is a bit like the sun , you can't shine if you don't come out . A striker needs starts to prove his worth imo. , Eder has had 2 and his 2nd one was pretty good . I don't know if Eder will make the grade or not but he proves the point about practicality, 5 million spent and were hunting someone else in panic as if he is crap . Take our time in the window to find the right striker as we give him his chance to prove his worth , your talking as if we're going down if we don't get rid of Curtis and Instantly get a replacement for Eder , he could be the next Michu or Vardy for all we know . Some thought Britton and Rangel were all washed up too , it's fairly obvious that's not the case.
what i have seen of Eder so far in his limited chances has not excited me at all and he cant have been too impressive in training ether or he would have had more starts. but i would not right the guy off at all. ..but we do need a proven striker in the premiership all the same in case Eder does not impress and get us the goals, With some luck Gomis will be gone next week and maybe Ayew so we will need a new striker anyway. TBH if i could swap Ayew for his brother i would be happy as his Bro has been more impressive and taken to the premiership better IMO.
What you thinking Dai Ayew to Liverpool? Could we take Joe & £cash in exchange? Jonjo to Newcastle? Could we take Cisse & £cash in exchange? Sell Gomis for £6.5m? Sign another striker - Bamford on loan? (Can't see Huw paying £12m for Austin)
Ayew doesn't work well in the middle , he's a winger with unusual movement and he's very good at it .......for someone else imo..take the money Is my vote and sell him .Our best chance at top money is if Klopp stays at Liverpool but that's a big if these days and even if he stays his word on transfers might not be what it use to .As for Eder not being very good because he didn't get starts , lots of the players that are responsible for our improvement under Curtis didn't get starts under Monk either .Monk was a fool not using more players , Curtis is fixing that now and he will give Eder his chance when he's healed but it doesn't mean Curtis and company aren't looking for a new striker , but they won't get one for the sake of it , he has to be good and reasonably priced which is a tough go in the January window . Curtis is a planner , he's always looking past what if imo .
Whilst agreeing we need to try and close the gap above us I'm more concerned about keeping and increasing the gap between those below us starting with the next home game. If we get the same number of points in the second half of the season as the first we should get 38 which I think will be enough.
Off topic a little, I see Leicester have signed Damari Grey from Birmingham, fairplay to them straight in and doing early business, where does that leave Dyer now, not much game time and they sign another winger.
