I have found myself wondering about Ross for a while now. He must have been promised premiership football when he signed for Felix - that was the thought that most people had - we would just bounce straight back up. We all know what happened with that and hanging on to him in the summer was a good bit of work, I think. Again he was probably promised that this year we would definitely be there or thereabouts, last year was just an aberration under a madman, Kit had fixed everything so all was well and moving upward and yet again he finds himself much nearer the bottom than the top with his old club six places above him in the table. He must be understandably frustrated and probably pretty disillusioned with Fulham as well. In the circumstances it would be sensible to hold on to your top scorer, but if he is just stropping around the field and not helping the team that much then should we just get a decent fee for him, balance the books and then invest a bit next transfer window? The Berba situation keeps coming back to mind where one ego effectively destroyed the team spirit in just over a season that had been built up over several years. The question is, if we did that, who could score the goals - Moussa potentially could, if he stays (big if) - possibly Woodrow, or maybe Savi has a loan or two up his sleeve in the form of people we have never heard of. On a unrealistic note - I wonder if he has any old mates left at Chelsea because Loic Remy isn't doing a lot these days. Ah, well. We can dream I guess.
Morning all. Yesterday was my first game in a long long while so I was very interested to see the comparison between the 2 teams under Woy and now. If I'm honest I was shocked at the difference. I thought we looked lightweight in all areas save for possibly Lonergan , Matilla and Hyndman who I thought played well. Wednesday reminded me of the Fulham under Hodgson. 2 rows of 4 when Fulham had the ball, pressing and had a big man up front. They weren't the the tallest in midfield but they worked hard all game. Interestingly I thought Parker created more space when he came on and we had a 10 minute spell when we were on top and needed to score but we couldn't get through. After that Wednesday closed us out. It wasn't all bad though . I had a good chat with Les Strong and Rodney Marsh and met Fred Callaghan. We went up with the widow of Barry Mealand and whose last visit to the cottage was in the early/mid 60's and she had a wonderful day reminiscing with Rodney and Fred. Who took Barry's place when he broke his leg at Highbury. What I still found brilliant about my day at the Cottage was the friendliness if place still remains. Lots of families with young children were there. It's still such a great inclusive club despite the goings on behind the scenes. One last comment about the away support who were outstanding all game. Much to my disappointment as my brother is a Wednesday fan!
Blame Craving's brother! Sounds like you had a cracking VIP day despite the football. You're right about us being lightweight though Craving and Slavi summed it up in a few words - please log in to view this image
Ye, it was my brothers fault and I forgot to wear my lucky socks! I actually haven't seen Fulham beat Wednesday in about 5 times of weeing them play. The coach wasn't impressed by is body language on the touch line. He has high standards it seems.
interestingly the b/w photo behind is of the queue for tickets for the 1958 semi final against Man U. Thought of you C58!
Cheers Craving. Wasn't in that crowd - the paper round couldn't fund a ticket and train fare to Villa Park not to mention a mum who put her foot down and said, no! The replay at Highbury was a go-er though and involved a bit of skulduggery for which I paid the penalty when mum, inevitably, found out. Losing 5-3 after having a perfectly good goal disallowed for an alleged hand ball by Johnny Haynes (would have made it 4-4) was worse than her punishment however. So, with thanks for the memory, here's a clip of the replay: http://www.britishpathe.com/video/manchester-u-v-fulham-replay
