Depends. If you're watching a crap stream it's always gonna be a crap stream no matter how good your Internet is. I don't really watch streams but I gather they're all pretty poor apart from Sky Go. The technology Lightstream uses is the best you can get anywhere, but it can't make a dodgy server work better.
i noticed that my area was set for Lightspeed between Oct and Dec 2015 , so far as i can gather there is no other information about delays or revised dates for the switch on ... anyone here in the knowww http://www.kc.co.uk/products/broadband/lightstream-roll-out/
I got it installed about a month ago, makes watching streams a lot better. You can watch the HD streams without constant buffering
I got it on 30th Dec and it makes a big difference. Kodi is now useable for me where it just didn't work before. The hd streams are just smooth. I'm getting speedtests of between 115 and 155mbs with ping times of 1 or 2 ms
Yeah I have it but I don't have the speeds that Frank gets. I've had it for just over a year and get about 50mbps, enough for me to stream movies on my smart TV and football on my PC with no buffering issues. The only issues that I ever have seem to be related to the open box that I have, it's a Technomate TM-TWIN-OE, I often find that there are 9 or 10 second stoppages before it catches up, missing out a 9/10 second chunk, which is most annoying, especially as it seems to happen more often on Sky Sports 1 when City are playing then on any other channel. The other thing that it does quite often is that when the TV is turned on for the first time each day the picture us frozen from the box, and the only way to sort it is to reboot. Anyone else have a similar problem with their open box?
I think the glitching is mainly the line being over-shared which is pretty common. Mine is reasonably good but the the provider stopped taking new people on. I often have to turn my box off and on as the decrypting stops working until I reboot but rarely have to pull the plug on it. I'm using an openbox v8s. Going to upgrade to a zGemma soon though.
Also, as far as the speedtest is concerned, I have two signals and the 5g one is the over 100mbs link. There is another connection that is more like 50mbs for older devices. I'm theoretically capped at 75mbs but the router has twin antennae as do my devices so it seems run faster
That would make sense Frank, it also kind of answers why the bint that sold me the box appears unable to resolve the problem. Her latest advice, after telling me that she didn't think that it'd be the box at fault, was to offer to 'flash it again' or for me to contact World of Sat who are her supplier. Looks like I'm stuck with the glitching until my subscription with her runs out. Who do you use? You can pm me if you prefer. Do you think changing might stop the glitching issues?
we have it here in brough.i think its very good.streams are good when there is one.when downloading off the sky box programmes are just about available instantly
It all depends how bad it is I guess. Mine is acceptable now but for the first 6 months it was perfect. I doubt the firmware is the issue but it won't do any harm to flash it. Also, worth checking your network signal on the box. Mine uses a wifi dongle and gets about 98% on the network connection page (not the satellite signal strength). My old dongle broke and kept cutting out. If it is wired into your router it most likely won't be that. Mine has stopped taking new people on. I find my line providers on cs-kings.biz, which is the main card sharing site online. Most providers offer a 24hr test line, but its worth reading other peoples comments. Some providers can have 1000s of comments on their advert thread, but you get the idea from the last 50 or so comments generally.
I've had Lightstream for a while but its like other internet connections I've had over time with KC, it becomes the norm so you tend to forget what went before. With dial up everytime someone rang our house my internet would get cut off and was, shall we say, making me re-visit some expletives especially when a Windows download was downloading, and of course mobiles were not everyday gadgets like today they looked like bricks and cost more than a house back then. And today most people I know have wireless connections these days, even the tele, something that was impossbile with dial up and its successor. But I changed my package when I got Lighstream and now have a bundle which in fact turns out a better deal than I had with separate phone charges and internet connection charges.
Just to put some context to lightstream. If the download site is up for it, I can download a gigabyte comfortably in less than 2 minutes. Its still a bit of a novelty for me.
I got it about 5 months ago and feel I've been had, the guy on the phone said its like upgrading from an old mini to a Mercedes SLK, well my new mec seems to be stuck in second gear, either that or the clapt out banger computers we use need a ****ing service. It's a bit faster but not 0 to 60 in 3 seconds.... ****ing car salesmen are everywhere !!!!!!!!!
Ha ha, I was a car sales man for nearly 25 years LBNA, I owned and ran a few car lots... I also fixed them...
Forgiven then we were talking yesterday about how many of the smaller car lots, and even some surprising bigger named non franchised car 'supermarkets', still today, lump in insurance products to the unsuspecting without even telling the customer, which is highly non compliant and likely to generate huge future complaints. And still many people believe it's the main dealers that are the enemy
