Read my reply to this, if you cant understand it, you are as dim as those you agree with.

Let me paraphrase what you agree with. "I dont know what is being discussed, I dont know the arguments of any side, but I believe "them" (I dont know who "they" are) as I perceive "them" to be the "authority" <ok>

Basically he says he believes the media, as that is the depth of his knowledge on this, probably cannot name one climate scientist and qualifications of said scientist without going and looking it up. Here's a tip, Al Gore is not a climate scientist, he's a politician who said Polar Bears cannot swim

    #beliefs

I am not surprised you agree, figured out cycles yet?

Snow extent NH. What was that PJ about Finland again I forgot. See that huge spike in 2010, that was when the IPCC and British gov and Met office said no snow, mild winter. They said it purely based on 2007\08 not being heavy, they thought they were onto a winner, predictions not science. Goes to show the state of their science, Piers Corbyn predicted the snow, and predicted records broken. One man right, all the kings men wrong, they had a 99.9999% consensus, and it was 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999% wrong.

Yet more cherry picking of data, same as using the 1998 starting point to 'prove' there's no further warming.

    #conspiraloon

The insulting of Saint is a particularly low point in your 'debating' (lol) of this issue.

Even if there was any truth in your argument, your arrogant and insulting way of addressing people who disagree with you would immediately alienate any reasonable person.

<laugh> Tobes you are entertaining if nothing else.

When your argument fails, in a science topic, claim conspircyloon.

It's your byword now, anytime denial sets in after a good mullering, post Meltdownloon.

Well, I am here on this thread reading almost nothing but stick and nonsense (bar Donga), which you joined into a few weeks back, but do you not think talking to Tobes and PJ for that long has an effect on my response to stupid posts.

Try ****ing thinking and not worrying about my disposition.

I told you it was not personal, I am truly irked by people who don't actually examine what they say rationally

You talk of attitude and yet you make a statement not even looking at evidence and dismiss everything I post out of hand cos "someone else said something you aren't even aware of"

So yes I am belligerent, rightly so, if you put your neck out, your head might get chopped off <laugh>

He's a world renowned expert in everything from nuclear physics through to climate change.

He must have more letters after his name than Stephen Hawking

He must also be in the running for a Nobel prize for his ground breaking 'research' that proves Einstein was a thick ****.

Actually...oh wait, no, he's just some stoned IT bod with access to the Internet and a severe psychosis.

Oh and Frank copped it a long time ago, most of my perceived arrogance is actually the way I write, not arrogance.

I'm precise because I try leave no room for people to twist my words, it reads arrogant, but yes sometimes I am arrogant but not nearly as often as you think.

After 2 years of abuse on this thread I am automatically belligerent yet I still put a lot of work into my posts so when you dismiss them without even reading them, it's slightly insulting

I've never called you names- not even after you called me a moron (not personal,eh?). I even told you that I agreed with a lot of things you said but didn't share the same conclusions. You ignored this and carried on in your usual way so in the end I had a little fun with the sillier aspects of it.
I'm not stupid, but neither am I arrogant enough to claim to be a fifteen-minute expert in an incredibly complex and unpredictable field of study.
I'm sorry if that irks you- but that's your problem, not mine.

But never mind, Tobes will lick your arse, he even licks Astro's arse on this thread, that's how out of his depth he is

Tobes has been giving it loads since I joined this board, and now he's all offended by my attitude.

What a ******, stupid ignorant mouth breathing moron. Thankfully he hasn't reproduced

The format is irrelevant, I was annoyed because I respect you, or did before that bandwagoning of yours.

    @saintaKlaus

To explain further, for the past 15 years I've been installing systems and writing software and as such I have to write thousands of manuals for support people.
I need to write them as if speaking to a child, step by step.

15 years of that has definitely influenced how I write. <laugh>

can we have a truce. I'll happily retract every insult. But expect a response if you dismiss everything I say out of hand. You're asking for trouble there :bandit:

If you dont know and dont care.. why come stirring the pot, you know what this thread is like. so.. :D

This is an interesting point. Putting aside for the moment that you aren't talking to children- imagine you were in the shoes of a climate scientist having to try and explain it to the rest of us.
I've said before- there are very few areas where I consider myself to have distinctly above average expertise, but if someone who clearly knew little about one of those areas tried to challenge me I would, initially, attempt to point out their errors. If they continued to drive home their argument I'd end up telling them to sod off.
But you're not talking to children, and being condescending is not going to win people over, and having to "spell it out" makes the assumption that your conclusions are unequivocally correct.
Like I said, this is not my field, you know more about it than I do, but not more than the many professionals in the field that don't share your view.
I know I won't change your opinion, and I don't have much of one for you to change so we'll just bang our heads together to no purpose.
I don't think science works the way you do- I think we believe in the best explanation for what we see until an even better one comes along. If Heller and Watts and whoever have a compelling argument then they will ultimately convince others- until they do I'll go along with the best current theory.

As for your religion/ flat earth/ authority point- it's not about kowtowing to authority, it's about respecting experience and expertise.

It just occurred to me that I hadnt come across the Royal Institute Christmas Lectures this year and just found them on BBC iPlayer. They're all about Space travel.

I've just put it on for the kids and as always they make a complex topic like astrophysics completely engrossing for children. They are well and truly hooked!
