The dialogue in all Coen Brothers films is exceptional. How anyone can't like Oh brother where art thou is a mystery to me. That, Miller's Crossing and The Big Lebowski would be in my top ten favourite films.

John Goodman's finest role for me is in TBL. Walter Sobchak "I told that **** down at the league office... who's in charge of scheduling"?

Goodman is brilliant in it. He is ably assisted by a fantastic script though.

Millers Crossing is a very good film. Have you ever seen Fistful of Dollars spaghetti western with Clint Eastwood? It's basically a very very good rip off of that but set in 1920's American gangster era with two warring crime lords. But seeing as Fistful of Dollars was a very good rip off of a very good Japanese gangster film, none of it really matters <laugh>

I would really recommend watching it, I doubt you'll be put off by the dialogue as it ALL drives the plot <ok> And the plot is fcking excellent tbh. Gabriel Burn and John Turturo are brilliant and there is one particular forest scene which ranks as high as anything you'll see in Goodfellas or Godfather. Would definitely recommend it.

By the way have you ever seen Raising Arizona with Nicholas Cage? Another Coen film and very good imo.

You had me up until raising arizona which is an awful film and so bad and boring i had to turn it off, together with No Country one if Coen's worst imo.

I love that film, its amazing especially the opening sequence. I didnt think pixar could keep getting better but then they produced Up!

Although whenever I watch it i think its my fav, then i think of the Incredibles and how much I love that, then I remember Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc and how can I forget Toy Story 1 & 2... In short i love them all!

Up and Monsters Inc are my two favourite Pixar.

I thought Toy Story was bit formulaic bubble gum pop tbh.

The Incredibles is brilliant, shows what a proper Fantastic 4 movie could have been like if they had decent people at the helm. There have been some truly awful Comic Book movies and both FF films are dire (I've not seen the latest one but I've heard it's equally as bad) probably cost more to make than the Incredibless too.

Just finished watching this <ok> Totally agree 8/10.

I don't know if anyone noticed but Kurt Russell is the clue. This is a homage to John Carpenter's The Thing. I know Tarantino is a huge fan and Reservoir Dogs was also partly influenced by The Thing, the undercover cop being the unknown element. Even the end of Hateful 8 is the same ending as the Thing.

Did some googling, Ennio Morricone's first non western soundtrack was The Thing, some of the unused music from that movie was used in Hateful 8, which was Tarantino's first original soundtrack. Tarantino has openly admitted that he has drawn massively from The Thing, which is no bad thing (pardon the pun) considering its one of my top 10 movies.

Tbh there's very few Carpenter films I like but The Thing is brilliant. There was a phase I was addicted to thaf film. Used to watch it over and over again. Loved the ZX81 (or old BBC) computer prediction of how the creature would infect the world lol

    Trumbo

This is the story of Dalton Trumbo, one of Hollywood's most prolific and successful screen writers. In 1947 Trumbo and a few other Hollywood notables were summoned before Congress to answer questions on their political leanings in front of the Un-American activities committee. After failing to answer their questions, Trumbo was jailed and then blacklisted.

After his release from prison and finding he could no longer work in Hollywood our hero goes to some extraordinary measures to pay the bills. Winning two best screenwriter Oscars in the process.

A very interesting story told in an entertaining and surprisingly funny manner. Bryan Cranston is excellent as Trumbo and there is great performances from a super supporting cast. Helen Mirren being the standout.

    8/10

Is this new? I've seen an older film about this, the whole McCarthy trials. Was a good film also. Seem to recall De Niro having the main role iirc. What happened to him was unreal. Bcos of the nature of suspicion and accusations, lifelong friends and close film industry colleagues distanced themselves from him etc.

Ye you get all that in this film. Paranoia run riot. Actually pretty close to what's happening in America today minus the Commies and with a little Islamaphobia added.

This is it. Well worth a watch. The IMDB rating is a joke. Probably bcos it's not De Niro in some gangster flick.

There was also a George Clooney film as well at what was happening in news reporting and political current affairs programming. Cant remember the name. Also very good.
