Green is ****e and must be dropped! -----------Smithies-------- Henry--Onuoha-Hall---Yun --------Sandro-Faurlin----- Luongo----Chery----Hoilett -----------Polter-----------
I'd go with the players who had a reasonable game on Monday Hall, Hill, Konchesky, Hoilett and - er, no one. I know that leaves us a bit light Can't believe people would keep Sandro in the side after his shocking lack of involvement against Huddersfield.
Col, You are the first person to have left out Phillips! A very big YES from me for that! I would accept that side, even though I would prefer to see Furlong & Doughty than the ex Tottenham & Wolves stars!
I think it is about time we set out with 2 defenders and 8 midfielders. After all we are playing at home.....
I'd go with this except start Phillips rather than Luongo, then bring on the latter when the Beast runs out of puff on the hour. Never going to happen, though.
To all you Green droppers....if JFH actually drops Green...I will lose a lot of faith in him as a man manager....You really do not bring a young goalie in to a televised match under these circumstances.....The away cup match vs Forest is Smithies chance to play. On the other hand I can well see JFH dropping Phillips....
Dunno, if we are gong to achieve anything this season apart from avoiding relegation, it's the FA Cup. Long odds no doubt, but JFH may want to try him out in the League first before risking him against Forest. Hopefully he does the same with Luongo and Cheryl.
I am not expecting many "fresh" faces in the team. Furlong, Luongo, Doughty, Petrasso, Diakite, JET and Grego-Cox, as well as Mackie, all played last night in the U21's match against Reading. It is worth noting that they lost and that Mackie scored. Also, that the match was watched by JFH and Les. Of the above, Luongo played 63 minutes and Petrasso 70 minutes, which I expect will qualify them for the bench. I do not expect to see the others.
That is exactly why I would have played him against Huddersfield. I believe that it would have been a excellent for his confidence and self-belief to play against his old club. I feel that we missed a great opportunity.
Plus it would have been a soft/ easy way to drop Green ("let the lad have a token game against his old club") and then to retain him after he played well, all without damaging Green's own confidence/ego.
True. I believe it was a lost opportunity. The next "window of opportunity" will be in the 3rd round of the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest.
Call me bonkers but I'd play Austin up front, I mean he's not injured or anything. Smithies Henry-Ned-Hall-Yun Phillips-Faurlin-Sandro-Junior Chery Austin
I would be happy with that team. However I thought Charlie has groin/thigh strain. However I admit that there is "radio silence" on this topic and it would be a very pleasant surprise if he made an appearance - perhaps off the bench?
Yep. Green should have been dropped a long time ago. We aren't going up and shouldn't go down, so now is the time to bring in the youngsters. If Furlong is available, I'd play him instead of Henry in the side I picked and maybe Doughty alongside Faurlin.
Cheer up lads we can't win to save our life away from home. If Charlie plays he'll score against us. I'm hoping for 2-1 to us but I'm an optimist. You score first and we'll struggle.
Now is the time to say to Darnell, Cole and perhaps Greco- Cox - right we think you are good enough, the place is yours for 5 games no matter how you play, only injury or you saying you are not up to it will cost you a start. If we lose all 5 and the youngsters are to blame there is time for our wonderful senior professionals to keep us in this superb league. Smithies should be starting full stop. My biggest fear would be our toxic crowd getting on their back after the first mistake. We are crying out for the fearlessness of youth. The common denominator of the last five years has been caution and risk aversion from players terrified of making a mistake. And yet they have made countless mistakes.
