It's his wages more than the transfer fee; what he was on at Man U reportedly eclipsed what we've been willing to pay by quite a bit, and assuming he's on similar at Leverkusen, his play almost ensures that his next deal will be bigger, rather than smaller. 100k p/w just isn't in our near future.

I see that the BBC have briefly linked us to Anwar El Ghazi and Terence Kongolo. (Although it's hardly uncommon to see us linked to players from dutch football, particularly those who Koeman has worked with before).

Any more sniffs at Byram? Still think he'd be a good shout, and I'd far rather have him in rotation at RB with Cedric than Cuco...

Only cost 3 or 4 mill too.

I have my Leeds supporting in law here. He says he's not signing a new contract. He also doesn't rate him that much.

Haha, my Leeds mate thinks he's gone in Jan, but really rates him highly!

Yorkshiremen!!! At least they both don't think he'll re-sign.

The question is are the board (especially Reed) interested? Fans have a habit of deciding on a player, then clinging to the idea. Meanwhile Les is looking at completely different players.

I've only seen him play a couple of times so difficult to judge. It's the sort of signing who would be reasonable in price, yet may not be one that gets fans too excited by the deal. It's a step up in this league.

But as an option alongside Cedric in the position, you'd think he'd be a better option than Cuco or shifting Maya there. Admittedly, that might not sound like the height of ambition, but it's a better solution for me.

I have a horrible feeling that the 4-0 win against Arsenal will be held up as 'this squad is strong enough and good enough alongside our players returning from injury', therefore we'll sign absolutely no one over this transfer window and then if we end up comfortably midtable at the end of the season who know who we'll get?

I suspect it will be relative unknowns who will adjust to the Premier League very well and therefore want to leave or be not that good and will have to be moved on....eventually.

I'm not optimistic, just in case you weren't sure :emoticon-0100-smile

I'll take no additions bar a striker if we finish Mid table comfortably.

RK has changed from 'nothing happening in January' to being more vague, so my guess is that we are trying to get someone in (Ron suggested a striker). It's not easy though, so, if nothing happens, we shouldn't assume nothing was tried. January is very difficult.

We need a right back. Pretty urgently, I'd say.

He's been playing right midfield though, as opposed to right back (or at least he was when he scored those two goals vs Wolves). So great that he can attack, but what is he like defensively? That's the key element in all of this surely, because Yoshida is hardly rotating with Cedric due to his (Yoshida's) attacking ability!

Sounds like Garde is looking to make a bid for Remy, having worked with him in France before. Get on that phone Les.

Disappointed to read that Spurs first signing, after Paul Mitchell joined them, was Dele Alli. Probably indicates that Spurs will have first dibs on players we are following, given Mitchell's knowledge, league position and funds available for wages.
As we have shown, in the past, and using Alli as a more recent example, there are players that can make step up to the top flight, so I wouldn't be too unhappy if we picked up talent from lower league teams.
At least they might be able to play for a full 90 minutes.

Got a bit of time of my hands, so I thought i'd go down the league and look at what attacking players there are out there who are struggling to get a look in at their respective PL clubs:

    Arsenal - None
    Leicester - Kramaric
    City - None
    Spurs - Townsend
    Palace - Gayle, Campbell, Lee
    Man Utd - None
West Ham - None (although Jelavic and Antonio both fell into this category before all of West Ham's injuries)
    Watford - Diamanti
    Stoke - Crouch, Odemwingie
    Liverpool - None
Everton - McGeady (or has he been injured? I think Pienaar has been, hence me leaving him out)
WBA - Anichebe, Gnabry (I know he's only a loanee himself, but loans can be cancelled)
    Chelsea - Remy
    Norwich - Lafferty, Grabban
    Bournemouth - Tomlin, Kermorgant, Rantie
    Swansea - Eder, Emnes, Barrow
    Newcastle - Riviere, Gouffran, Obertan
    Sunderland - Graham
    Villa - Agbonlahor, Kozak, N'Zogbia

From those names, I'd say that the two most prominent names are the two guys who have been mentioned before - Remy and Townsend. But if his attitude is right and his serious injury from last season hasn't left a lasting impact, then I do wonder if Odemwingie could be another loan option? I can't see Stoke having any issue with letting him leave.

I'd be a little bit disappointed if Remy went on loan somewhere that wasn't us.

Sounds like Villa are in pole position. Garde has worked with him before.
