Completely agree and am just so glad Lloris kept out that corner or it would have been us feeling gutted.
Watford bully teams (in the right way...not the dirty cheating way) and we finally have a team that have a back bone and that clash made it spikey...and a great atmosphere from what I saw on tv.

yes and it was that gave me the feel that we are becoming a solid prem side... just like in the GT days when you never really considered we were relegation material :)
No... this season is part of the resurgence of little Watford.. will not fizzle out :)... anything above 17th we will be very happy = We all WILL be very happy :)

We have more points now than at the end of our last two season in the Premier League. We are 11 points from safety. Our season is very, very far from fizzling out.

Did you spend Christmas wandering round orphanages and laughing at the kids?

Waited until this morning to watch it on MotD and make a calmer assessment.

Ake won the ball clearly. The momentum on the follow through obviously catches the opponent but that is never a red card. The idiots on MotD obviously think that the ball changed direction of its own accord, blind muppets that they are. I should really expect nothing less I suppose. I think an appeal is warranted but the best we can hope for is for the ban to be reduced to one game, I know how the "blazers" think and what the muppet in the middle will likely say.

As for the winning goal well that just shows what a joke the current interpretation of the offside law is (assuming the asso got it right, which he clearly didn't) or that the asso does not actually understand the law (challenge on the goalkeeper is most certainly in active play) which is the case. Useless man.

    Robbed.

Shows how far we've come if you think we're going to be disappointed by a defeat at home to one of the best / strongest sides in Europe ( that's Man City not Spurs ) ! That's not to say I wouldn't be disappointed but just shows how perspective has changed since August.

Getting the ball does not make it a good challege...hitting an opposition player, studs first, at the top of his thigh is reckless and dangerous so it is a red card. Have no idea how it is anything else

    This <ok>

We beat Liverpool comfortably a few weeks ago and we're a few points off Champions League spots going into the New Year, NOONE on this board would have predicted the way this season has turned out...

It's Spurs fans that should be ashamed it took an offside goal and a red card to beat poor little Watford <whistle>

Glad to see a ref see what I did. I was beginning to wonder if the fruit juice I had with my dinner was stronger than I thought. :emoticon-0100-smile

I would have felt ashamed if you hadn't nearly beaten us with 10 men so now I feel not shame (just relief) <laugh>

We have had excellent referees this year until yesterday.
Also our team has played in an entertaining and fair way with our disciplinary record being very good.
Yesterday the referee gave our players no protection and let Spurs players get away with niggly fouls and constant holding. Then when there was a foul against them they either conned the ref or raced to the ref to confront him in numbers, intimidating and influencing him on a number of occasions.
Britos made a clean tackle - booked! Igi was fouled at least twice while trying to get away down the right, he is trying to free his arm and flings backwards - he is booked. Ake is red carded - Spurs players surrounded the ref and it didn't help it was in front of the bench.
The linesman made at least 5 mistakes; the ref should have controlled Spurs and if he had done so early on their antics would have stopped.

All that said, Spurs looked very good first half and it looked ominous but we came back into it and for all their possession Gomes was hardly troubled.

Deeney said he enjoyed bullying Liverpool with his physical presence...we refused to be bullied and pulled and pushed back, got in Watford players faces etc. everything that pool players didn't do. It was a lucky break that got us 3 points but we'd have lost that in years gone by.

I didn't say it was a great challenge but Ake won the ball cleanly and it was clearly his momentum that carried him through. The ball was at a fair height to be won (this side of the English Channel) and the opponent and the players made it look a lot worse than it was. If you punished every challenge for physical contact after the event then you wouldn't have a game. In this case if ITOOR it is a foul then the sanction is adjudged pretty much immediately. The highlights were edited and do not show the inordinate amount of time Taylor took to decide the sanction. I would suggest strongly that he's been unduly influenced.

So's you know I make the observations from an educated (refereeing) standpoint, not just as a fan.

He did say that but not in the way you are suggesting of fouling or play acting that your players should be embarrassed about. Did you see him go down once yesterday? No. Deeney does enjoy the physical side of the game but he is fair.

Studs first into a players thigh is not an acceptable challenge...I never mentioned punishing every tackle which involved physical contact but this was not just physical contact...and spurs players have every right to kick off about a dangerous tackle on a team mate. The Watford player was not in control of himself ... otherwise he would not have studded Lamela in the top of the thigh. To accuse Lamela of faking is a joke tbh.
And your last line about being educated and not just a fan comes across as snobbery. You are biased imo...no one outside of some (not all) Watford fans are saying it was never a red card. Have no wish to wum so will leave before I overstay my welcome. Good luck for the rest of the season (apart from you trip to the Lane)

Have not suggested anything negative about Deeney. ..your bias is blinding you to a reasonable discussion
My post no 121 clearly says he does it fairly

Come on guys - most of these Spurs comments are fair. Whether the ref actually got it right on the red card I am sure 99% of Watford fans would have called for a red card if it had been the other way around.
It was a strong competitive game and if in August anyone had said we would make a proper game of a match against a side in the Champions league places we would have been delighted. As others have said - our disappointment shows how far we have come. Only about three weeks ago we had a thread in which the majority of Hornets - looking ahead to the tough four Christmas / New Year fixtures said they would accept 17th place there and then. Since then our results have made most of us feel we will do better than 17th.
I am pleased that for once we have a number of visiting fans coming here and politely expressing their views - reminds me of the good old days of 606.
As for defeat against Man City ruining our season - that is a laugh - we know we are vast underdogs for that game - but we have already suffered two defeats in succession (Leicester and Man U) and we came back with 4 wins in succession followed by a draw away to the reigning champions. This is a good season for us if we avoid relegation - which we will easily.

I thought that - whilst we're all pretty miffed it's been good to have a couple of spurs fans on with a balanced view point to add to the discussion. Haven't seen much of that from other clubs at all this season which has been a shame.
