Not for me Davy, just be adding to the list of not very prolific forwards we already have. Smith seems to be struggling at championship level.
Fair enough LoL, I always regretted losing him when we did - thought he had something about him and Evans might just be the man to bring it out. Wishful thinking maybe.
He was certainly worth a lot more than the half million pittance we received for him though. Still a relatively young lad when we sold him too
To be fair Davy, I see your point as there doesn't seem to be a lot out there in our price bracket that could make much of a difference. Every transfer is a gamble but with what we are willing to spend our buys probably are more in the gamble category.
Thanks guys, given the usual aversion on here to having old players return, I was looking for the tin hat smilie before I posted that.
We do seem to want to buy the same players over and over again, is that why we say we have a loyal fan base
Alan Smith was at the city ground watching us on Sunday.......... He could still do,a job for us. Here fishy fishy
Judging by appearance of him at that game, a job in a harry potter movie might be more apt for him even if the clowns on the scum board seem to think he was our greatest ever player
I'm all for a Smith return, Davy. Always liked him. One of the biggest problems we have with signing players is that they can't take the pressure of playing for a big club, but we never realise this until we've shelled out the money for them. He knows what it's all about, so he's way ahead of most potential signings for a start, even if it's only from a mentality point of view. Then we look at his goal-scoring. Think his average is about 1 in 180 mins or so. Not shabby. )Interestingly, it's about 1 in 120 at ER !!). Not the best passer in the world, & not particularly fast, but not many hulks are, tbh. We'd be buying him to score goals & win ball - both of which he's rather good at. Helps out with a number of assists too. Oh, and whisper it - he can head a ball !! If we signed him & kept Byram, we'd have 2 non-defenders who could win headers! Nirvana! Bottom line - it's not going to happen, is it? Cellino is never going to admit that he got it wrong, is he?
Sadly Jock I have to agree, even before I posted I could see Cellino's ego would be the dusky gentlemen in the timber shed. Evans would need to have a prolonged conversation involving spaghetti and a BJ for him to even consider it.
Evening Gloria fair play to you what? No chance the old union leader isn't gaining something out of salvaging the past - that is what they do
Respect your view WJ but he doesn't seem to be handling the pressure of Fulham. If he can't cut it there (or here) why do we think he'll suddenly become so good that he becomes the forward that will spark a promotion challenge for us? Lastly, what is the obsession with us for ex-players that have never made us look like being promoted?
Davy you've undone a lot of good work with that post for me, Matt Smith is to football what LL is to talking about football - there is a reason neither are pulling up trees in their chosen field
No probs Marcos, in Glory's favourite idiom I think he's the one that got away, and just because no one's managed to get him to fulfil his potential doesn't mean it's not in there. I liked what I saw of him anyway, and he's vegetating behind McContract and Dembele with little opportunity to develop.
This season, he's had 4 starts (subbed in all) & 8 subs appearances. Tell me how that helps to build up a striker's confidence? He had a slow start with us, but we were patient with him - he lost weight, got fit, learned loads, & began to be a real asset. He clearly has the capability, but for whatever reason(s), he's not getting the chance to show it at Fulham. Come to think of it, who is consistently showing capability at Fulham?
Apparently in Miami and warned staff anyone failing to carry out his blockade would be disciplined for gross misconduct. Class act.
