Not going to go mad about todays result, this is more of a whole season question. So why aren't the youngsters given a chance when we have a very thin squad?
Only RK can answer that Beef. Im surprised that Reed and a couple of others don't at least get on the bench. With Romeu banned maybe that will change?
I think we all agree we like to see HR energy during these games which come thick and fast over Xmas. Can't explain!
Who do people think is good enough? Harrison Reed - as a substitute - aside, I am really struggling to think of anyone.
Would have thought with Pelle out and only Long as the only a real striker we have left that Seager would get bench time.
With all due respect to Ryan: he's a good finisher, but he'd get absolutely mauled by Premier League centre halves. Especially in our system.
The players that have impressed me the most have been McCarthy, Mugabi, Hesketh and Seager. we don't know how they'll adapt in the first team until they have been given a chance. Seager in particular is a natural finisher, something that we are maybe lacking to finish all of the build up play.
You don't know that until the lad gets a chance. It just seems instead of giving youth a chance. We play a guy that has had about 50x that and hardly done anything.
Been asking this since last year, actually. If we're not going to buy depth, we need to use the kids to fill in the gaps.
Seager is five foot seven and he isn't quick. He's a poacher. Surely you don't believe we can really accommodate him in a Premier League match?
Few people thought the same about Shaw when he first start. As I said before, we don't know how they will get on until they are given a chance. He could do nothing, but then he could actually surprise a few people.
Why shouldn't Juanmi, Romeo, Clasie, Cedric get a chance? They're older but they're not like OLD old. The only younger player I think might have a good case is Reed. Maybe Gazzaniga since Steklenburg is only on loan but Forster's return will make that irrelevant anyway. The rest I think should be sent out on loan if to get more first team action if they have potential. I think too many of our players are stagnating on our bench/playing in U21. But we brought in a bunch of players that we thought were good or going to be good and so we need to see what we have with them as well.
Said this in the summer, and say it again now. Rather see the likes of Seager on the bench, than Ramirez for example. Would liked to have seen Reed given a chance as a Morgan replacement, but he's even further away from playing! We don't even integrate them much anymore - we used to have a few of them training regularly with the first team squad, getting on the bench and the odd minute to slowly bring them through, but even that seems to have stopped this season.
Thing is dtlw if he don't play them how is anyone, player included going to know if they are good enough. I remember almost a year ago watching us thrash Everton 3-0, an outstanding performance. On the pitch that day were reed with targett and gape coming on as subs. On the bench there was also seager, McQueen and McCarthy. I thought wow, promising times. Since then, nothing. These sort of games that come thick and fast is an ideal time to blood some of these players that we are investing a lot in.
I'm just saying, there's not enough playing time to go around. If you try and get all those players into games AND get the youngsters playing time as well no one ends up playing enough.
Last season, we had the likes of Seager, Hesketh, McCarthy, Targett, Gape, McQueen, Isgrove, Barnes, Gallagher, Stephens, Turnbull & Flannigan all training with he first team often enough to be noticed. Most of them made their debuts too. This season, I've only really seen Seager (0 apps), Reed (2 brief subs in euro), McCarthy (0 apps) and Targett in and around the first team. It's a shame the chances don't seem to be given as much as last year.
