Ball did not go out of play until Spurs scored.

Was at the game today. Really reminded me of the Man U match. They started brighter with plenty of possession and got their noses in front. We came back and got the equaliser and in the second half matched them all the way until the horrible late goal. Both games thought a point would have been the fair result. Some of the strangest refereeing seen in a long time. Ake looked more like a yellow to me - will need to look again on MOTD. Thought the Spurs fans seemed OK and made more noise than the Arsenal and Soton (the two other games I've been to) fans put together ! Let's move on again and have a go at Man City. I'll be travelling down again as I'm now into my half season ticket. Another battling display and 11 men on the pitch and we'll be in with a shout.

You were unfortunate with the offside...Son was offside on the first cross but the red was definitely correct...a waste high studs first tackle into the top of the thigh can only be a red imo.

    Very unfortunate.

Ake was def a givvable red...... even though appears harsh. Other refs may not have given it.
Son was offside when ball cam across first time and he attacked Gomes... so winning goal should not have been given

BUT we played brilliantly with 10 men and were very unlucky....

Good enough for this level proven again

    COYH!

Agreed on all counts. To be fair we have done ok as reagrds refereeing decisions so far this season. Sure yesterday hurt a lot and the ref was poor, in my opinion, but it's important to keep it in perspective. Such a shame as it would have been great to come away with at least a draw.

Gutted about yesterday, but I am sure we will bounce back!!

The thing about poor referees is that you do get them, it is a fact of life...HOWEVER there has to be consistency, being poor or otherwise towards both teams. On a large number of occasions yesterday, it did appear that AT was applying one rule for Watford and another for Spurs. Let's just hope that we don't see him again!!!

In the words of my son he was a complete DIV!!!

Wish all hornets a HNY and let's hope we start 2016 with a bang against Citeh

Compare with the Rooney challenge yesterday that only merited a yellow. We have done OK with ref'' this season, but the fact we are highlighting it shows there is a problem. Yesterdays ref (and his assistants) should be removed from all lists and sent back to ref school. He/they were abysmal.

It's the inconsistency of the officials yesterday that pissed me off. The Spuds #20 did a far worse 2 footed studs up challenge in the first 10 minutes - but the ref hardly spoke with him and eventually had to show a yellow. I Suisse because it was so early, the ref was less inclined to show a red.
I would be embarrassed to be a Spuds fan after seeing some of their behaviour yesterday. Right at the end of the game Danny Rose went down holding his head after a strong but fair challenge from Deeney - after he realised the Lino or ref was going to give him a foul, he switched to rolling around holding his ankle. Always ha been a nasty horrible club and always disliked them, no change in that after yesterday.

I also thought that the Spurs team had the worst attitude seen so far in their efforts to constantly fool the ref and he fell for it hook, line and sinker. I don't buy the Ake red card as having watched it on YouTube I believe he won the ball before the collision. Strange how quickly the player who was so badly injured jumped up after the card was shown. Danny Rose I thought had tripped over a worm cast, and was clearly trying to fool the officials. Why is an attacker doing the same thing booked in a penalty area, yet a defender gets away with it?

yes the red card incident is certainly questionable... you can clearly see why he gave it, but open to interpretations....

    Rose should have been booked......

I am not surprised a red was shown - not that I am trying to defend that referee - but he only gets one chance to see it and Ake went in high with studs showing - a harsh but understandable decision in my book. If Watford disagree they can appeal it -Ake is not known for being dirty.
I am more angry with the failure to flag for Son's offside - that was what cost us the point. We actually played better with ten men - if you read the Spurs board thread they were desperate for the whistle to go as it looked like we could win it.

I was angry, and still am, with the ref who lost control and hid behind his cards. Ighalo practically had the shirt taken off his back early on as he was trying to create a chance for himself, yet nothing was given and from that point on it was downhill all the way for the ref.
I have read some of the comments on the Spurs board and it seems that our fans are not liked because we moaned about the man with the whistle. Strange how some people react.

Honestly can not see how anyone could disagree with the red, it was a reckless challenge, studs first at thigh high level.
The offside was a bad call by the linesman and we were lucky to get the decision.
We were looking in danger of losing in the end and think a draw would have been fairer.
I think some posters on here are being one sided (understandable as you are Watford dans). Carroll was caught in the face and did not roll around faking injury.
Spurs players refused to be bullied and confronted Watford players a couple of times cos that's how you stand up to strong teams...Deeney said he enjoyed bullying defences after you beat united (I think) ... and I don't use bullying as an insult...it ain't like you are dirty but you are physical and the way to fight that is to be physical back.
The ref gave Alli a yellow in the 1st 5 mins which I thought was way over the top and you got a corner when an offside player chased Trippier who put the ball out for corner. The only difference was that we scored from a poor decision whereas you didn't. That says to me that we were lucky rather than the officials were favouring us

We are all biased mate...we (as football fans)tend to mainly see what goes against us rather than what goes for us.

Absolutely - but yesterday was so bad because we had no time to react to it and it cost us a point. You know exactly how that feels! It's also made worse by the fact that it was such massive game for us - we were absolutely flying so coming down to earth with that kind of a bump isn't great. On a slightly more positive note, leaving aside the result I really enjoyed it yesterday - a proper spikey game which sometimes bordered on the downright nasty. It was a bit of a throwback to the old days.

Man City is also a huge match for you, lose two at home and your season could fizzle out.
