This is a terrible idea, it was hard enough to pick 7 subs let alone 5 with our current squad. for example say we play this team; Davis Richardson Fonte Jaidi Harding Oxo Cork Spider Lallana Lambert Barnard Bench: Bart Dickson Hammond Guly De Ridder That leaves the following out of the squad and with the rule of 7 subs it would still be hard to leave them players out; Martin Chaplow Holmes Connolly Butterfield On top of this if we do sign a new CB That would drop another player from the bench to the 'reserves' and could upset team morale and players. Disgraceful decision by men who have never played the game before
Yes indeed I hate to think how much playing time is lost when the ball is off the pitch, two very bad decisions by the FA who seem to know FA about what the fans want, perhaps they could actually ask them for once?
On a plus side for the players who would normally just get a 10 minute run out once in a while, they will now be playing more football in the reserves instead of warming the bench for a season, and the hungry ones will always push there way into the first team!
I actually thought 7 subs was too many. It leaves too many players not playing. As for multiball, they stopped it because of the "home" favouritism; they can't control the delays for an away team when they want a ball quickly. What they don't realise us the crowd will now control those delays!
The main problem IMO is the fact that you have less options, for example if you only have space for 1 defender and its a full back, and your centre back gets injured then in your in a bit if trouble. Obviously it's good to have a youngster on the bench too for matchday experience and stuff.
Well that is when the manager has to use his coaching ability to have players that can play in more than one position. With the above argument, we should have 11 players on the bench.
But how many decent players are comfortable in mutiple positions? For sure, there is a place in football for the likes of O'Shea, Telfer, Phil Neville, Anders Svensson, Smicer etc. But I'd much rather have a proper centre-back and a proper striker and a proper winger etc on the bench.
Me too mate!! It was a joke on FM 2009 or 10 was it where you only had 5, just had to gets Saint's promoted though for 7th sub heaven I suppose and will be the same next year!! Why couldn't they have changed it to 5 minimum, max 7 subs then the teams with bigger squads/more youth players could field 7 if they wanted?
After that you'll be talking about when offside was offside, tackles were tackles, shorts were short and passback was...allowed.
