I do get most of your points, he did do a good job at Brighton in L1 and the Championship, (as is the current Brighton Manager Chris Houghton, who also you could say didn't do to well in the PL). As for his time at Sunderland, he did ok in his first season but had 2 or 3 transfer windows to really put his stamp on the squad and sign the players to move them on, which I don't think he did, as you say he bought poor quality and that is probably my biggest worry, but as you say we have a good squad here, however we are expecting him to make some signings to sort out our current problem=s and I am not sure he is capable of doing that.
So I know you say you are playing Devils Advocate. He is just not for me and I would be gutted if we signed him. Some may disagree but that is how I feel

That's completely fair! Most definitely not everyone's cup of tea. For me, I don't want him here either - but I would watch with intrigue laced with worry should he be appointed the post. We'll never know how much control he was given at Sunderland to make signings - maybe they have a controlling board too? But either way, the signings that Sunderland made under his stewardship never made enough difference to push Sunderland up to a mid-table position. It's an interesting debate - but compared to some of the managers being touted, while they may have higher credentials, I do feel that an element of knowing the British game as a player and a manager can certainly be advantageous to whoever does take over.

Well this is the longest we have ever been without manager, and it happens to be in the hardest League in the world, you really do wonder about our board at times like this, getting totally stupid now.............

Better to take their time and get the right man (hopefully) than rush into it, IMO. Certainly could have been handled better though. An interim to steady the ship could have been appointed fairly quickly, although Curts is doing ok at the moment.
