How many Swans fans that travel to away matches actually stay the night? I've done this for most away matches I've been to but have never bumped into any other Swans fans. Do they all just go straight home?
On my way back from the playoff final I saw no less than 7 Swans fans at various points during the trip from central London to Stansted, and 3 in the airport no less! Most gratifying. I'm imagining I'll have to stay overnight for any London away trips I make this year, let's hope the flight-pricing gods are kind to me!
I used to come home straight after just because I was on official coaches. Now I couldn't think of anything worse than a few beers and a long trip on a bus. I stayed 5 minutes away from Wembley in Premier Inn and I was getting stuck into a mixed grill by 6.15pm after the game with a nice coupla bottles of red. I spoke to someone at 7.30pm and they were just getting out of London on an official coach because of the traffic and didn't get home until midnight. That would have taken a tiny bit of shine off of my happiest day ever. There were a few families of Swans fans staying there with us, but I don't think the hotel was all booked up. Thought more would have gone and stayed tbh.
can you guys fly direct to places like newcastle, manchester etc etc and if so and the flights were cheap enuff i would be flying and staying the night, flying back the next day assuming it wasn't a work day or i had an RDO
most places are drivable and would most likely take longer to fly by the time you wait around in terminals. i question the amount of away games the OP has been to though. whenever we go to newcastle or carlisle, the pubs and clubs are full of jacks. and if we go to the north west, we often go to blackpool for a night out. we stayed in sheffield a few years back. that was a great night out. but didn't bump into many jacks there. plymouth and torquay are also popular for weekenders. i have looked into flights this year to newcastle from bristol and it'll be about £60. last time i drove it took under 6 hours but we stayed 2 nights. i might do the same this year. not sure yet. i'm not anywhere near rich enough to stay away after every game though. sometimes it's just nice to get back home to swansea.
just googled distance swansea to newcastle and was 317 km, over here that would be a 4 hr drive max, over your way how long would it take??
well then i'd be driving and staying overnight to enjoy or commiserate, there again not too far to travel back, be home by 11pm
Newcastle is much further than that. AA route planner says distance is 567.6km and time to drive 6hrs 13mins. From past experience of route planner times, I'd say it's more likely to take 8hrs, as they don't seem to consider traffic jams. The reason I like to stay after a match is simply because it's nice explore another area of the country or visit old haunts.
