Nope, it is a change in times.
Back then football was a sport driven by pride and glory. Now it is a business driven by results and money.

Surely glory and results are linked?

Of course they are, but the pride part was just as big. If your team tried their best and got beat by a better team you could still be proud, the result didn't matter. Now the result is all because that brings in the money.
Hard to convey on a forum what I am getting at, I just think these days managers get sacked even though their teams are playing good, exciting football while others keep their jobs by boring people to death but winning things.

Which teams are playing exciting football and losing?

At the moment none, but over the last 25/30 years there have been many who I have felt deserved much better than they got results wise, even a few who have been relegated.

  7. Costa was lucky not to get a straight red for the challenge at the end when he got booked, clearly uncontrolled and two footed. Got away with it because his momentum had about gone by the time he catches the players.

Tbh Diego I think thats a mentality that exists far more in English football than it does on the continent.

For example, teams in Spain rarely sacrifice their principles of pkaying the game the way God intended, to stave off relegation or win trophies. The mentality is different over there.

    "a change in times"

Deffo, can't remember a manager ever having to be protected by minders on and off the pitch.

Even Woy never needed that kind of protection with us.<whistle>

Too late for this Jimmy, I can wum on the fly but answering questions like this requires some thought.
All I can say for sure is that over the years there have been teams I have enjoyed watching who ended up lower table or relgated and I always thought they deserved better.

I'm a firm believer that the table does not lie. Teams are in their respective positions because they deserve it.

  14. I'd much rather finish second in the league (or lower to a point) and enjoy watching the thirty-eight games than win the league and be bored to tears every week.

Double edged sword Jimmy, teams deserve their position because of their results without doubt, do they deserve it on their performance/entertainment, not always.
It all depends what you want from the game, we have spent the odd day at the top of the league this season and a large portion of it so far in the top 4. Are we playing the type of football you enjoy, would you be happy if we won the league playing this way (if our results start to improve again)?

  16. We should make it 5pts for a win and keep it at 1pt for a draw. League would become much more entertaining very quickly. Isn't entertainment what we pay for?

  17. This wouldn't make a lot of different to the current table...

...Stoke would be two places higher with Everton and West Ham dropping one place each.

However, the difference would be in the individual games. Who would settle for a point? Most teams would go all out for a win each week, it would be great.

PS...I'm not actually serious btw, just bored.

Not sure if it would. Makes winning/results even more important.

I think the best/only way in England to achieve entertaining football would be to scrap relegation.
