In the Heart of the Sea. I couldn't fault it tbh. Brilliant story, really well told and once again, Howard's unflinching ability to create an expansive visual masterpiece. I hesitate to give it a full 10 as I never do so out of pigheadedness I've put only 9/10. Go see it!
I understand what you're saying about true romance's story, and i love that film, its got epic performances from christopher walken, brad pitt, gary oldman and others. Reservoir dogs' story is more contained but I prefer it slightly though (both epic films). In my opinion in his 1st films (true romance, reservoir dogs, pulp fiction and kindof jackie brown) concentrated on the story, and if course pop culture, whereas his later films, even jackie brown had elements where he wanted to concentrate on 70s blaxploitation. Kill bill was a massive homage to Tarantino's love of kung fu/eastern cinema rather than about the story/character development. Same with inglorious bastards it seemed more Tarantino showing off his knowledge of obscure European cinema and music and littering the film with references than about a tight story.
This is exactly the reason I went off his films. Kill Bill was a struggle to get through for me. I think he lost his way. The Hateful Eight is a western, but it's a plot that could be put into any scenario. You could've set it in modern day america. For that reason, I like the fact it's just a western with a great story and no other bollox.
All his films are a homage to one thing or another. Hateful 8 is a clear homage to Sergio Carbucci's The great silence. Django was a remake of another of that directors speghetti westerns. He makes no bones about this. He even went to Ennio Morriconi for the score for his film, the same man that scored The Great silence. I loved Kill Bill and thought the character development in it was excellent. Inglorious basterds too was , in my opinion an excellent film. I don't understand your claim that it was QT showing off his knowledge of obscure European cinema. I just thought it was a ripping yarn that happened to be set in war time France. Which happens to handy considering the subject matter of the film.
fair enough if you don't agree, but in my mind the stories and storylines were very shoddy. Also in kill bill in No 1 there was an excessive amount of violence, which detracted from the film while in no2 it needed more violence to entertain more. Left the films very unbalanced.
I love Tarantino, personally I think Death Proof is his worst movie. Inglorious Basterds I thought was a work of genius. Kill Bill I like a lot, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir dogs are just fantastic movies with dialogue that still has it's imitators (mostly bad) all these years later. They are beyond film, they are cultural entities, not many Directors/Writers can say that. Anyhoo I digress. Ant Man Loved it, the characterisation and script are top notch. Very witty and very clever. Superb 9/10
The dialogue in all his movies is top quality. Even the worst of them, Death proof still has an excellent script. The dialogue in his movies is everything. The only peers that are on a par are the Coen Brothers.
Sitting having a few hawfs whilst watching Spectre. It occurs to me that every time James Bond gets on a train there's a barny.
I was wondering if someone would mention the Coen Brothers - sorry that this might cause another argument but I hate the Coen Brothers, mainly because their dialogue is so bad. lol. It's funny my mate loves Deathproof, Kill Bill and also the Big Lebowski (which I think is ok) - he thinks it's one of the best films ever, and he loves the Coen Brothers. But I think Big Lebowski and Where Art Thou are ok, but everything else is shocking.
Fargo is very boring and with poor dialogue and scripting, Millers Crossing is quite good (forgot that was a Coen Bro's film) but there's much better Gangster films, although Tom Hanks performance is very good.
Aye.....Tom Hanks in Millers crossing......very understated. ......it's like he was never there. I think your thoughts on film are better ignored.

I agree, the Cohens work on Miller's Crossing and The Hudsucker Proxy are among my favourite in any movie. Having just now looked at all the posts I see that Miller's Crossing is not that well known. For my money its one of the best movies ever made. The Cohen's best? Maybees. Here's some Hudsucker dialogue.
