Happy for Jarvis to go temp to perm - he's looked good when he has played and looks up for it. Hope this is confirmed soon.
I'd love to see Naismith, just think he will add so much fight, workrate and stamina. Plus the experience and he can get and create goals. Just still can't picture the CB target we desperately need.
West Ham have confirmed it OCF. Done deal. "West Ham have this morning have confirmed to ClaretandHugh that Matt Jarvis has indeed left for Norwich in what being seen as an early Christmas present." http://www.claretandhugh.info/jarvis-deal-changed-way-irons-do-business/?
Not bad, older than I would have hoped, but we need the experience. Came through Bayern Academy which is good, played a lot of games in the top level for stuttgart. Europa League, Champions League. Fairly quick for a 31 year old, and 6'2. I'd be happy to bring any CB at this point, but he looks a solid as anyone we've been linked to recently. 5 Days ago, there's a story of Palace linked with him. That's a good sign, in terms of the quality of player. They are switched on when it comes to the transfer market.
I would argue that if we - or any other similar sized Premier League club - could buy the same 28 year old Grant Holt that we did for 400k (similarly Hoolahan for 250k and Martin for 100k or whatever he was) this season then we/they would get a hell of a return on our money, far more than when we spent all that money on Ricky or Leroy. My original point was actually trying to point out that we do and we have splashed out big sums on players in the not too distant past, which was in response to KIO and Braveheart suggesting that we never spend any money and that for us to splash out would be a "miracle", because that clearly isn't true. Haven't worked it out so I may be over-egging it a touch, but I'd imagine our net spend in the past 3/4 seasons very possibly amounts to the total net spend in our entire history up until that point, so I don't get this criticism of our board that they are miserly and never splash the cash in the transfer market. That argument got diluted, and the theme of what I had originally argued shifted somewhat, but I'll still stand by what I said in that spending vast amounts of money (which was what KIO was pretty much saying isn't something we ever do, hence me getting involved in the first place) is absolutely no guarantee of success or even necessarily this only way to do things, and I used the examples of Ricky and Leroy v Holt, Hoolahan and Martin to evidence both these points. At no point have I said we shouldn't be in the market for players that could break our transfer record, we do need to strenghthen and I'm happy for the club to spend what we can reasonably afford without putting us at financial risk. I'd just rather concentrate on us identifying the right players that will strengthen our squad, and not worry about whether or not we're seen as big spenders, which appeared to go against what was being said when i joined this particular debate
I agree - sorry I didn't mean to imply I was disagreeing with you I just thought it was an interesting perspective that at the time £400k on Holt was quite a decent layout.
Happy to have Jarvis permanently, must admit I wasn't thrilled or excited when we got him on loan but his performances have proven me wrong. I hope he is fit to play for us again soon as I think we've missed him.
He seems like a nice boy Matt Jarvis @MrMattJarvis Delighted to have signed a permanent deal @NorwichCityFC can't wait to get back playing and helping the team soon! Matt Jarvis @MrMattJarvis Thank you everyone at @whufc_official players, staff, fans everyone! enjoyed my time there and wish you the best of luck in the future!
The Sun reporting Brentford striker Alan Judge will be offered a new contract to ward off interest from Norwich, Swansea and Bournemouth. Can't see it myself and not exactly a reliable source.
Been very quiet on the rumours front lately due to Christmas. Win today and we will seem a more appealing destination for prospective new recruits.
McNally said there had been lots of work recently to get some deals done early. I have heard a relatively reliable rumour we had 2 signing done or nearly done already. I assume Jarvis was the first so there could be some early news.
Grabban missing from a second match day squad in a row, despite heavy rotation by Neil. Something happening there I wonder?
Hopefully. More money for a starting CB. A new striker as well with possibly three of that breed leaving.
Read here about Georg Niedermeier from VfB. Wouldn't be opposed to have him at the club as he is an experienced relegation battler with Stuttgart having struggled for the past few years BUT I would still want an actual decent quality CB.
