image.jpeg Hull and East Yorkshire MInd

We regret to inform you that our offices were broken into and money was stolen, money collected and donated to us by a bereaved family who's loved one had commited suicide.

Can you help the police catch this heartless thief?

Please take a look at this photo, do you recognise him?

If he's the guy who took the money (they really should release footage of the guy actually taking money and not just some bloke in a hallway at 7pm, he could've been anybody) and went into that with the intention of theft, why isn't he covering his face? That's robbery 101 isn't it? Don't let the cameras see your identity...

Whomever took it is an utter ****, but I'm not sharing a pic of this guy around until I at least see a video.

Your post has no credibility . Looking at the time on the CCTV I would imagine the Mind office would have been closed for the night . If the person seen is innocent then he will be able to explain what he was doing . You are acting like do gooder Looney leftie .

Do gooder? As in, somebody who wants justice the right way? As opposed to, say, morally ambiguous justice akin to "oh he's wearing a turban therefore he's a bit terroristy?" Or, showing a photograph of some bloke in an office while the lights are on and claiming he's the thief? He could've been a service user, the cleaner, somebody who works there, anybody. That's just a photo of a bloke in a jacket to me. I want the guy caught as much as the next person, but I'm not sharing a photograph and putting my rep on the line if I don't have all the facts. Sorry.

And let's not get into the whole left wing, right wing thing, no politics. But judging by the way you responded, I'm guessing you've read the Daily Mail for five minutes and have cracked the immigration problems of the EU. Well, good luck with that.

Releasing the image isn't about trying him in public - it's a matter of releasing the clearest image possible in the hope of identifying him.

While we don't know what else the cameras have captured, it's pretty safe to say that the organisation (presumably in conjunction with the police) wouldn't have released this image without having other evidence that leaves them certain that he's the guilty party. To suggest that they've publicised this shot without that evidence is to accuse them of gross incompetence and irresponsibility, and I think it's shoddy of you to do so.

If he is any of the examples you have listed feel sure Mind would have said . As I said if he had a legitimate reason for being present at the time seen then it would be up to the CPS to try and prove he is the scumbag who committed the crime . As it stands the law in our country says you are innocent until proven guilty . And do not throw the race card at me , a turban is usually worn by a Sikh man by the way .

Well then release the video of him doing it, why wouldn't they in the first place if it would clearly incriminate him? Call it shoddy if you want to, if they release more information to me then I'll gladly share it but as it stands, I'm not going on a photo of a randomer and nothing else. Although, the Mind office shuts at 4.30, he's there at 7. It looks pretty suspect. Plus those are coded doors, he'd have to break the door in to access the money, which I assume would be in some sort of lockbox. He doesn't look like he's carrying any tools, so he either he's a dab hand with a hair pin and a credit card (unlikely) or he already knew the code previously. Which means somebody either told him it, or he saw it being entered. Hmmm.

The description calls him a "heartless thief", we don't even know who he is so if anything it's contrary to what you've said as he's already been judged by everybody that sees this photograph. It's a mental health clinic, so it caters to a lot of different people, some I'd guess are former inmates or drug abusers who may have been in there and spotted the money. Who knows.

And I didn't throw the race card at you, it just typified the response you gave. "Left wing loony" implies that you would be at the opposite end, as I don't think the term 'loony' is used endearingly toward another left wing person. Ha, like I'd be associated with any of the parties in this country. And Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, Rastafarians and even some African Christians wear turbans, not sure why you moved the conversation that way but I do love a good turban debate.

Again, there's no need for the sort of public trial you want. In fact, releasing too much evidence would potentially put any future prosecution in jeopardy as the defendant’s lawyer could claim that any jury would be prejudiced by such prior public knowledge of the crime.

I don't want a public trial, I just don't think a picture of a man with the caption "heartless thief" is enough to go on. Given the circumstances in which the money in question has been donated, I think it's only fair that we get a bit more information, after all, we want the guy caught. And they're going to be prejudiced by the caption now, aren't they?

Looney lefty? It's not even a remotely political issue. I'm far from being left-wing and I agree with Sterling, it may well be him but innocent until proven guilty, an important part of the British legal system.

I would imagine it is simply the clearest photo and that others damn him as the thief, so just name and shame him. Perhaps they should do a PowerPoint presentation so everything can be shared and principles can be upheld against silly imagined slights. Unbelievable nonsense.

The crime itself is abhorrent and the lowest of the low. The person who is responsible should be caught, tried and eventually imprisoned for a significant amount of time. It could definitely be him, or not. Why share a picture of someone on social media and accuse them of such a scummy offence without any context on why he was there, other than the picture?

What should have been said is "can anyone help identify this man who is a person of interest, being sought for questioning in the case of the theft of moneys from the offices of Hull & East Yorkshire Mind"

Calling them a scumbag before they have been convicted of a crime is a little harsh

I mean, if a woman was the victim of a sexual assault behind a nightclub like Welly or Sugar Mill and a still CCTV image of a man from the early hours of the morning close by found its way onto the internet, I wouldn't post it on social media. It could be some random innocent guy walking the streets and then he could be a victim himself of a media witch hunt which could potentially ruin his life.

Scumbags who commit awful crimes like stealing from mental health clinics or rape should be caught and punished, according to our legal system. Not according to hasty people baying for blood on the internet.

I agree. The title of the thread is provocative. It should be changed to something like 'Crimewatch - Anyone recognise this man?' and the original post should emphasise he is a suspect or person of interest. I doubt it will be changed though.

The exact same thing happened to a lad I knew of at uni, some girl got sexually assaulted and all she could remember was that there was a bloke with a black tshirt on behind the club. The next day, he was all over Facebook. Poor kid dropped out of uni, got death threats and all sorts sent to him. He'd been at a casino down the road with another mate, but by the time he realised it was too late. They caught the guy that actually did it, was some American lad from the other uni. I don't speak to him anymore (not that I ever did much anyway, he was just in the same building as me at uni, was a Rochdale fan if I remember rightly), but he's the reason I never do anything like that until I know all the facts, the kid's life was effectively done and he had to start over.

I'm not saying the guy in the pic didn't do it, but I will not be part of some sort of Internet hounding so HDM commenters can get their bloodlust satiated. Bollocks, if he's guilty then they'll find him out, if he's not, well it's not like he'll get an apology will he. The other guy didn't.

That's terrible. I heard of stories similar to the one you described and its the reason I won't take part in any of these social media trials, let alone endorse them in any way.
