So you reckon it's not worth taking any kind of gamble to stay up then Munky?

I'm far happier having a more cautious approach that doesn't endanger the club. I have no issue with where our club sits in the pecking order and frankly i'm relieved that we appear to have management that refuse to "gamble" bigger sums than we can afford on potentially bigger name players. That's not a lack of ambition. I want Norwich to climb the PL ladder but within our means and not through a lucky punt that could have dire financial effects down the line. We've had a taster with Ricky... The sums will only get bigger.

In fairness if we're spending large sums this Jan, i'd rather it was invested in a kick ass scouting capability for the long term.

It seems to me that some would prefer us to have the QPR approach, it didn't work for them so how would it work for us?

I don't think anyone has mentioned splashing silly money on 'WCT' who are looking for just one last big pay day.

If a player is available, and would fit into our team, then if we could afford it, I would prefer us to buy him, whether it be for £10 or £10m

If that's aimed at me Dave don't exaggerate I think nothing of the sort, I'm just saying if we have to pay a little over the odds in January for a decent CB and Striker to try and stay up this season we should do <ok>

Rich, you take every opportunity to berate Delia and DM for making sure we spend money wisely, so yes, it was aimed at you! :emoticon-0109-kiss:

    I'm with KIO on this.

We have tried the frugal approach and we have been up and down. Sooner or later you will have to push the wage structure and the transfer fees to get the players in that can establish us in the PL.

It's not going to be 100% safe but nothing is.

It's also nothing like QPR they got up and went mad straight away we have had something like 4 seasons in the PL in the last 5 years. There must be some money surely.

We need to look at what West Brom did and aim for that. There is a middle ground between QPR and making smart but slightly risky decisions. We are at a cross roads.

Agree with this approach <ok> If the only aspirations the club has is to yo-yo between the top two leagues, then stay 'prudent'. But I'm pretty sure our current squad is not strong enough to survive, and only by making 2 or 3 fairly high calibre acquisitions will it become so.
I'm not suggesting the Chris Samba on £100k a week approach - far from it, but merely trawling lower leagues hoping we get lucky is not enough if the club is serious about surviving this campaign.

Please, please, please - let's not have the 'QPR approach' and I don't really believe that anyone is even suggesting that, but rather if Afobe costs £10M or so and helps to keep us up, then let's buy him (would prefer Naismith though).

    Changing the subject a little.

We (under 8'a team) entered and attended the footsall winter cup at the UEA on Saturday. There were some cracking, young, technical players there. Well done to the CSF for putting it on.

I hope "depth" is just manager speak for "improve the first team". To make a difference, I'd hope a new signing was good enough to start at least a dozen of our remaining games. Two new " bodies " on the bench isn't half as useful as a new first team player.

    Your wish is my command:

Obviously it's a YouTube compilation, but he does seem to finish fairly instinctively? Intelligent runs, bit of trickery, runs the channels? Looks like he'd fit in based on that.
