http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11833_7054874,00.html I'm a big fan of Wayne Rooney, I think he's a top class player, but I don't think he can realistically be as good as Messi. Rooney is a level below Ronaldo and Messi but one of the best (if not the best) of the rest.
Realistically he probably won't ever be as good as Messi, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't try. Good to see that he's not comfortable just being one of the top five or six (I'd put Xavi and Iniesta ahead of him) players in the world and is trying to push on towards the top of the pile. Much like Utd shouldn't be happy just being the best team in England but should be pushing towards the top of Europe
im glad to see him strive for more.....everybody would have something to say if he set his target as a crap player like carol or torres?dont forget messi is only as good as the support he as from the flanks.thats why he is cack for argentina?fact
Will never been as good as Messi I'm afford, but its good to see him wanting to strive for more and grown as player and truly become a Manchester United great. I know this has been done many times before, but I honestly think if we got sneijder, Rooney would become better with that should of world class support, pining in balls left, right and center for him & Lit-Pea : )
To be fair, we are going to see a more confident Rooney this season, with his hair sorted out and that. His hair beforehand would of always secretly got him down, now he's sorted it out, he should be raring to go more than ever.
I think its great for any player to aspire to be the best, I don't think Rooney will ever be remotely like Messi but there's no harm in trying.
I doubt Rooney will ever reach the level of messi but I think he may maintain a higher level than messi can throughout his career. What I find about alot of players from South America is they burn out at a young age. Not always the case and messi could of course continue at this level ( or become even better ) for the next decade and more.
Rooney has no chance of ever being as good as Messi as Messi will be in the top 3 greatest players ever to grace the game soon. Rooney is a top player but not a world class player. The likes of Villa and Eto'o are world class strikers and I would even say Pedro is now a better player. My top 5 players in the world go Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi, Inesta, Vidic. I really do believe Vidic is a world class player and the best center back in the world. These 5 players are far and wide more influential to their teams compared to Rooney. The attacking players are streaks ahead of Rooney. I am not saying Wayne is not a good player but he hardly compares to Messi, Ronaldo, Pedro, Eto'o et al does he? Still top class but not world class.
I agree with you about Vidic, he has been the best CB in the world for a few years now. Wazza will never be as good as Messi, but as United19Red said, it is possible that Rooney could stay at his peak for a longer period of time than Messi. If you're playing football professionally and you're not trying to be the best player you can possibly then you're not doing it right!
